I'm not crazy about the Spyder trem (mine didn't seem to hold up over time, bought used) but the guitar itself is pretty shreddy. Very flat fingerboard, wide, thin, with only an oil finish on the back of the neck. The Kahler locking nut is a variation of the Floyd nut, and it is very nice. I'm looking to replace the Spyder with an OFR at some point.

Damn... That comes out to about $1400 USD. That thing would have to be fucking MINT, and you would have to be a rabid Fender collector to even consider it, IMO. I know shipping, import, blah blah blah could be a factor, but as a player piece, I'd say 'no fucking way.' The most I would go is $500 for one in really good shape, with a decent case.

One bid, of $230

Yes, I got it about 10 years ago, and I think I paid between $250-$300 USD, with no case.

i 2nd what jet and sixs said,
i've owned them before.

i found i don't like wide flat necks, but for those who do, these are good.

there was also in the same era late 80s early 90s another "heavy metal" strat by fender that looks really like a regular strat and says "heavy metal" on the headstock;
they're not as shred-focused as these "strat" labeled ones are imo.

I have a few of these and I love them. They were built only for a few years in the late 80's. Some were made in USA and some were made in Japan. You can tell by the serial number (visit the Fender website for this). Fender developed these to compete with superstrats of the 80's. They are great guitars IMHO: Flat radius wide fingerboard, big frets, thin back profile, 24 frets (all very un-strat-like), and one hot bridge humbucker (Dimarzio Super 3). They came with rosewood or maple fingerboards. I like the Kahler Spyder licensed Floyd as well. In the later years these guitars came with OFRs. The colors (mostly solid colors with some marble looking ones in the later years) are very 80's too. In short, it's a full-fledge shredder. This is not your father's Stratocaster!!!! .

The Price they're asking for is waaay too expensive though. In US you can buy a reasonably clean one for $400-plus.
