Help determinig age of ESP 400 Series Strat
I just bought an older ESP Strat, and was wondering if anyone could help with determinig its age. Serial number on neckplate is 02917, headstock logo is black with gold background. The only other marking on headstock front is "400 Series".
It's got a Surf Green body, a v-shaped maple neck with a 22-fret maple fingerboard. The tuners are slotted, a la vintage Fender. The pickguard is w/b/w, but I don't know if it is original. Anyone know what I've got here? Thanks! Jerry ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Last edited by griole; 11-10-2009 at 05:19 PM. |

Probably late 80's, before they switched the 400 series to the 'Traditional' or Vintage/Vintage Plus series. Can you post some pics? The headstock shape changed slightly towards the later 80's so if I can get a pic of that, it should help narrow down the production period.

Pictures posted - does that help? By the way, the headstock photo doesn't show the gold background of the ESP logo very well, but it's there.

Nah I was more or less lookin to see the end of the headstock... after ESP stopped making the Fender strat heads, they changed the shape slightly twice, before making it like the one you have (its still currently like that). Yours is probably a very late 80s model... I want to say they switched to the 'Traditional' designation around 1989-90 before finally calling it the 'Vintage Plus' model. Hope this helps.
Beauty of a guitar btw, I approve! |
