School me on chorus and delay pedals! :)

What are some good chorus and delay pedals I could get my hands on? I'm not a gigging musician and all the playing I do is limited to the house pretty much, so I'm not looking at anything too expensive, but I'd like to invest on a good quality pedal.

As far as chorus, I've only had experiences with Boss, so I'd appreciate your guys' input on any other brands.

And I'm a total noob when it comes to delay pedals. I keep hearing a lot of good things about the Carbon Copy, but I'd like to keep my options open for digital delays as well. What exactly are the differences between analog and digital delays?

Any info. is appreciated! Thanks!

I've played, owned, own... a lot of pedals and really for simple home operation, shoot, even for gigging, I use a DD-5 Delay and an Arion SCH-Z Chorus. If you don't want to pay the extra money for tap tempo, get a DD-3. If an SCH-Z is hard to find, the Boss CH-1 isn't as warm but will do just fine.

DD-3's can be had for $80 used all day.

The boss stuff is great but they all sound very "clinical" will little in the way of warmth or character. MXR do some kick ass stuff and Electro Harmonics do some cool stuff to, more "quirky".

Pedals are the kind of product that the market is inundated with and every store will have a collection of different brands so Id recommend going and trying some out.

Thanks for all the input! I'm not entirely sure what a "clinical" sound would be like, but I imagine it won't affect me too much. I did find a good deal on a Boss CE-5 and it sounded decent from what I've heard. But I will definitely get to trying out some MXR stuff.

I will also check the DD-3!

Thanks again!

The MXR Chrorus is really overkill for the non-gigging musician, unless you really are a chorus aficiando.

The Boss CE-5 is very nice, it's more mellow and warm. The CH-1 is the more sterile and clinical one, think Zakk Wylde on "No More Tears" (album).

Delays: Simple, Digitech Hardwire Delay. It really is the best on the market in that price category. Check out some reviews if you don't believe me.

Boss Chorus is great. Danelectro Cool Cat chorus rips too - probably the best I've had. Boss delays are great, but a bit sterile. I have the MXR Carbon Copy and the Guyatone MD-3 micro delay - one for analog and one for digital. I love both of them - a little richer tone IMHO.

Thanks dudes! TDH, thanks for the input on the CE-5 and the CH-1. I was trying to get a good distinction between those two. And I'll check out the Digitech Hardwire delay as well.

Chris, what differences can you tell me between the analog and digital delay? I really don't have an ear for these kinds of things. Thanks!

Analog delays have a warm decay, and a more "vintage" sound - less hi-fi. The digital delays reproduce the sound EXACTLY as you played it - not as warm IMHO. Each has it's place, and that's why I have both - I like each of them for their individual strengths/personalities.

Sweet, that makes it a little clearer to me. I've been checking out videos of analog/digital delays as well to distinguish the sounds.

They have their own unique tone, which is preferential. Analog delay seem to have the repeats blend in with the dry signal better, whereas with digital delay, you can hear the distinction between the dry and repeat signals a lot easier. It's all preference really...

very easy to use delay better than dl4 or dd20 imo, really fun playing those dotted 8ths.
OP should get a ehx small clone and a delay with tap tempo.

I absolutly love my DL4. Spent many hours/days sitting there, fiddling
about the looper and the delays. The next best, imo, is the Timefactor,
which is on my list, too.

If you just want some delay in your sound, the DD3 is ok, but for more
delay-action I would suggest the DL4.

I agree. The DL4 is pretty sweet, but like I said... me=bedroom player w/ not a lot of cash.
