Since low wattage amps are becoming big buisness now for companies; Anyone with a Low wattage amp, that is under 15-25W Class A/B or 10-15W Class A post pics of their amps in here, no hybrig Vox ADs or Marshall AVTs, just Orange Tinty Terrors, Peavey ValveKing Royal 8s or JSX: Mini Colossals, even the Mesa Express 5:25 qualifies in this thread.

Post pics, clips, videos and reviews.

I have said many times, the Laney Lionheart 5 watt 5T-112 is my pick of the amps for this year thus far. :hat

Matamp Minimat, 2 watts, lovely cleans, but I cant get distortion out of it without it sounding too middy.

i've got a modded epi VJ...its awesome. i responded to your post on SEWATT.com

i will say about mine VJ, its great, got a good amount of chug, i have no problems playing some metal with it, its not hi gain, but it puts out enough, even on its own, however with a nice OD out front it chugs even more.

EDIT:

STOCK- the amp stock was kinda harsh distortion, almost no low end, and just soudned thin to me, however it was still pretty cool for classic rock type of music, but now IMO it just sounds better overall.

it is REALLY easy to mod and parts are instructions are readily available.

Im just wanting something that i can spend hours just modding the hell outa, thats where the Epi Valve Jnr comes into its own, for starters im gonna do this if i get one:

Standby Switch
Brite Switch
Gain switch on R6
Gain control on R5
Tone control over C3

That would be about it, all being if i can install a effects loop at another time.

Maybes a couple of other mods, if the Hum has been sorted out on the combos, but the hum has been sorted on the head, i know that.

man, i jsut replied to this on SEWATT...but i'll do it over here too...

my advice....

don't worry about bright switch, it honestly doesn't do much once you start really modding it. for R6, jumper that, and i'm not sure if R5 is where i put my gain control, so i can't say if that's the best option, but its great becasue you can just try a bunch of different places. my mods are based on the idea of more gain/chug. if you are looking for a clean only amp, disregard what i am saying.

i also got rid of my gain switch when i changed out most of the resistors doing the marshall mods because it no longer did ANYTHING. so i'd suggest doing those marshall mods first, and changing out the tubes for higher quality ones. standby switch was my first mod and its a must on this amp i think, its easy to do and quite handy. i'm going to chagne the Ot in mine soon, but i jsut got a new pre-amp for my rack, so all big VJ projects are on hold

Im gonna check out the Marshall mods, i am looking to make it a gain laden.

Im looking for a pre gain, post gain and a tone control with a couple of switches to control the tone structure.

everyone says any kinda of tone control or EQ in the actual circuit will drastically reduce gain, i'm looking at installing the ebay FX loop kit and running and EQ pedal in there, and use that to control my tone. the gain control mod i did will give you the same results you are looknig for, it is just done a bit different from what the guys over there say. i bought the master volume kit from ebay :( but its jsut a pot with 3 wires, but the instruction were much better than what i found on that site.. i don't know much about electronics stuff so i'm jsut kinda stumbling upon stuff...

Im kinda OK with electronics as i did Physics at school, but am looking to have something to have a project.

Another mod im also looking at is the input impedance switch mod.

V

i've never even looked into that mod...

hopefully soon, i'll have some internal EQ modding results to give you.

Im looking at it at the moment it all revolves arround putting a switch on R2, it works well with the brite switch seemingly.

they always seem to have el84's and i've found i don't seem to like these tubes or not any amps i've had with them,

they always for me suffer the same probs - muddy, farty/blatty, overdrive at such low volumes you can't get a normal livingroom-volume clean if you're using humbuckers.

however, oddly enough the mesa 20/20 i have does not suffer any of that! it sounds to me like an el34-equipped amp.
so it can't all be the power tubes causing the problem, i dunno.

i swear that using a full size/watt amp that i LIKE, and mating to a thd hotplate, is simply the best thing i've ever heard, and until i hear better, this is what i'll be doing.

just my onion. :)

i wish i could make clips, but i usually make video clips and my camera battery is dead and my charger is 138 miles away. sooo it'll be awhile, but i'm going there next week so clips soon....i promise

gaijin... i've not experienced that muddy farty sound with my valve junior, hopefully the clips i post will make you think twice about your EL 84 decisions

Sadly ive been ill this weekend so i havnt been able to get out and get a VJ in one form or another or even a Pevey VK Royal 8 or just to see what a dealer can do on a JSX: Mini Colossal.

I sence i will get a VJ sometime and mod the fuck outa it.

I've always been under the impression a combo of these two would yield a KICKASS tone in a small package:

I don't really dig the EL84 tone, either. The Univalve lets you use just about any type of power tube, my faves being the 6L6 and 6V6. I run mine through a home-brew 1x12 cab, but I really want a 4x12 for it. It's definitely not a 'metal' amp, though. It's far more vintage/retro in its ability to cop cranked Marshall and Fender tones. The 6V6 on low-voltage makes about 7 watts, and you can dime that bitch for some very realistic AC/DC tones. Don't be fooled by the little number '7' though... That is still quite loud.

Rex, i aggree, if Epiphone did a VJ with a twin channel design, i think it would be a hell of design; 2 channels (2 x 12AX7/1 x EL84), 1 x Gain & Tone per channel, with a master volume would sell.

Altho it may cost a wee bit, posibly the cost of a Tiny Terror, but i feel it would sell.

I absoutly love the tone of EL84s for the record.

imperium, once you add another 12ax7 to the VJ, you could easily adda second channel

yep, mine isn't quite there yet, infact i've only got 1 switch added and one added knob for now, but i really want to add another 12ax7 and el84.
