That's probably 'list' and a dealer can sell for much less.

A dealer will probably get it for you at like $4000-$5000

I dont doubt that the prices are rising. In fact I bit the bullet and ordered my custom a couple months back because my dealer had heard these rumors aswell.
The quotes I got back were still around $4000-$5000 at the time. The thought of the increase and not being able to afford it afterwards forced my hand. So now I'm slowly paying it off a chunk at a time to ease the financial burden.
Not to mention seeing how Jackson did it already and the quotes are now $6000-$8000, totally absurd compared to what they were. Not surprised folks especially when it seems ESP is probably making more CS guitars these days then Jackson.

might i ad this is a custom shop were talking about not a production....6 grand is steep but im not surprised, id rather spend 6K on an ESP Custom then a Gibson or Fender custom

When retail was approximately half of what it is now for essentially the same thing 2 years ago the price jump is pretty surprising. I would expect prices to increase, but not by $1000 a year.

$6100? ouch , I think I'd just hold off and buy any nice used pieces that may pop up on Ebay. Sure it sux not getting your dream guitar but thats like 2-4 guitars worth of coin.

I hope they don't change it cuz I still haven't paid anything or actually applied for it yet!

Prophetian you will get charged the new rate if you still don't put the form in.
think it says in the page that prices and time of build are subject to change.

you should order all the parts you want and then take it to a luthier. Sure its not an ESP but its also not $6000

I hope the prices didn't raise too much...I just dropped off my order form at my dealer like 10 hours ago and I'm expecting a quote back within the next couple days. Hopefully it's within my range... :(

Thats a lot of Mahogany. A DV8 is a big guitar so it will weigh more than a Les Paul Custom. The guitar may cost you $6000 but your Osteopath will cost you double that. :)

umm...no it won't. If you've ever actually held a DV8, they're frequently a good pound and a half lighter than ANY King V, which is a smaller guitar, including the T which was mahogany. My stock black DV8 is lighter than even my basswood Ibani...lol Let alone a Les paul Custom

Fair enough. I havent actually held a DV8. I used to have a 57 Reissue LP Custom that weighed a ton and thats all Mahogany. I still own a KV2 and its very light. I cant see how a larger Mahogany guitar (unless its mostly hollow or has massive cavities) can be anything like the same weight but...oh well.

Shane pointed out that this only applies to the US it seems, at least not in Australia...
Since ESP has raised prices, does anyone know if they offer anykind of payment plan or do you need to pay in one big chunk?

there are different grades and origins for mahogany. Honduran and Phillippine mahogany are the most frequent found in guitars. One is more of the pinkish mixed into brown kinda looking stuff, the other is the more golden brown looking stuff. Both are nice and strong, but do have different weights and reactions to humidity.
Even my camo DV8 with the floyd and all the hardware is lighter than my King V's. It goes both ways...but generally, the ESP DV8's have always been pretty light.

I just got a quote for a 24 fret Kami for $6100  Amazing instruments but I think that is a bit on the steep side!

MY ESP FX is surprisingly light and it's all mahogany. About half as light as other explorers I've owned in fact. There are a few woods that are heavier than mahogany.

Agreed on your comments on DV8s. They rock regardless the weight.

How accurate is the online custom quote calculator now?
It used to be that a dealer would be able to offer you 25-30% discount on whatever the online system returned. Is that now inaccurate?

your question can only be answered by the dealer of your choice...ESP doesn't set the amount your dealer chooses to offer from the retail generator.
I've never really had much faith in the online generator anyway...so many people bitch about it make threads crying over it, when in reality, the price usually comes up 99% of the time different anyway when the dealer sends the quote to ESP. None of my customs came out to what the online generator told me they would be, nor did any of the customs I ordered for people while I was a dealer. It's a very general ballpark...nothing more. And sometimes, the ball is in the parking lot, not the park...lol

It's probably because the US $ is so weak.
Thanks George Bush, he ruined your currency.

Hey u guys ever here of something the U.S. gov has called Congress? The president can't do anything he wants to. Congress is the one who has the say so. The U.S. gov is set up so ONE man cannot have too much power.
But yeah I hope esp comes out with a new color for the B7 and does NOT increase their prices!

What? When did this happen? I really need to start watching the news more often.

This is one of the probs with America...one of many, yes. Bush does not represent who we are, and it sucks that worthy investors handed him the job, not the people. But whatever...
In my travels around the planet, I've always had to answer the goofy questions about why I have such a president.
Rest assured, for alot of us, he's not the person we'd have chosen. :) He certainly doesnt represent me. |I

Nileguy is right!!!! Bush/Cheney does not represent real America.
Use the generator to build your dream guitar but get your real quote from an authorized dealer. Negotiate a deal. No one pays list or MSRP for anything. See if your dealer will let you pay it off over time, as these guitars will take maybe 8 months to arrive.

Pres. Bush sucks and I can't wait to see who takes his place. I really don't follow politics much at all, but I know an A$$hole when I see one...anyway, I used the generator and it came to about 5500 for the one I created. Not too bad I guess if you're going to get what you want. If you think about it , it's like having your own sig. series guitar made. Which is really a cool thing !

I voted for bush and I would do it again. I am against abortion. Also Kerry kept changing his views on everything. Too unpredictable. Just my views on it, but the abortion one played a very large part of my decision.
