I've been in love with that horizon since you posted it the first time!

The EC is a 2006 i think :) I bought it used 4 months ago, and it was about 7 months old then, perfect condition, just needed cleaning.. :) I was happy!

It was an Horizon NT-II with the SD combo, but I loaded it with a pair of EMG's 81/60A. I'm not sure it was my smartest move but I had to try the 81. I mostly play with the 60A, so I plan to swap the 81 for an 85.

It sure is an FX - but an ESP FX :evil - not the LTD FX (with the ugly spalted maple top IMO). Mine doesn't have the spalted maple top - it's the mahogany body finished with a paduak brown stain. Got it last year, it's a japanese export model.

The previous owner gave it some serious mojo.

It plays like a dream and it looks worse than it is up close. Typical maple ageing after somebody hasnt wiped it down regularly.

Its a 1991 RG550 and the body hasnt got so much as a scratch on it.

It sure is. I've put some better pups in there too. A DiMarzio Evolution in the bridge, a Kent Armstrong custom hotrails in the middle and a DiMarzio Humbucker from Hell in the neck. I might swap out the Humbucker from hell but the Evo and Armstrong sound great in this axe.

The Horizon is waiting for a couple of Bare Knuckle pups (Warpig ceramic and Sinner) which should arrive today. Then it should sound like the fifth horseman of the Apocalypse.

The toggle switch tops are metal, and they just screw on. They're easy to replace if you ever needed to. I get what you're saying though.

I prefer ESP's to most Gibson's. They look better, sound (sometimes) better and (the most important thing) are mostly a lot cheaper. If you buy a Gibson you pay much just to get the name..

I know it's the "Standards"-Tread, but I just throw all my guitars in it.

My main guitars:
- ESP Eclipse Archtop from 1998 (love it, best guitar I've ever hold in my hands!)
- LTD EC-400, 2006 (for metal stuff)
- Ibanez RG320, year 2003 (I will sell it, 'cause it can't keep up with the two others. But I still like the RG, it has caracter and I've always loved this guitar very much!)

Then I also have a Squier Strat (my first electric guitar), an acoustic from Japan (nearly 40 years old. I forgot the brand), a non-brand doubleneck that really sounds bad and a 130 year old lute (is this word correct??) that isn't playable anymore but really looks antique. I got it from my grandma who got it from her grandma. :)

How do the Parkers stand up to the ESPs?I got into Parkers because I wanted a better clean tone. It's hard to beat the piezoelectric pickups for that. I had been using an A/B/Y switch to switch between the pickup outputs, but that's going to be done via MIDI and audio switcher soon.

The Parkers are way way lighter and the necks are very similar to the ESPs. When I first (reluctantly) played a Parker, I was amazed at the similarity in the neck feel.

Believe it or not, the flamed maple Parker Supreme was a gift from an uncle in law who had gotten a nice settlement. I was floored. Best gift ever. It's my go-to recording guitar. I use the purple Horizon for double tracking.

Nice guitars man. I really like the blue horizonThanks! It's the oldest of the three. The bridge saddles have the string clamp screw directly in the saddle instead of in the back how a regular Floyd works.

Funny story, I had sold the red guitar (my 2nd Horizon) to finance my 2nd Parker (silver one). I was left with just the purple Horizon as my only ESP. I missed it and bought the gunmetal blue one about 4 years later to make up for it. Literally a week after I got it, my red ESP goes back up on eBay and I bought it back. So, I'm technically still the original owner. I bought it NOS from Drumcity Guitarland in 99 as a HS graduation present to myself. I believe I got it for under $1K.

I really love the early to mid-90s Japanese ESPs. They're hard to come by in the US and the prices have been climbing, but they're well worth it IMO. I've played a lot of guitars in my day and the Parkers are the only things I've found that match the feel and quality of those Japanese ESPs.

I've been tempted to get other guitars, namely an Eclipse, but I'm not sure I want to play a different scale. I'm also tempted by hardtail PRS Custom 24s, but they're hard to find hardtail, the bridge isn't adjustable, and the scale is a bit shorter (though not as short as a Gibson/Eclipse).

In a live situation, I like to have backups for different tunings as well.

whoa! those horizons are sick man, very niceI used to have a black one with cheesy Queensryche graphics on it (two white crosses through the Floyd). I bought it off of eBay as a 3rd guitar. When I got it I was disappointed that the neck had been shaved down. I stripped it down, gave it to a friend, and he painted it white.

It would have been a great guitar if the neck hadn't been butchered. :(

It has no 12th block inlay, and the Floyd recess was longer in the back than most Horizons I've seen. I still can't quite place them in chronological order though. I wish I knew when they introduced the subtle changes.

Nice guitar man. I've got GAS for the white version of that so badly, but I don't think I could ever justify £1300 on a V shape. I mean, its kind of a one trick pony, only good for solos. Can you get a good rhythm sound with these guitars that even comes close to a Les Paul? Or are these really good for rhythm and I'm just an idiot for thinking they're not?

My camera blows, so this is the best I can do right now. The Surveyor is an amazing bass, which is all I can really say or I start gushing. I love her so much I got her some 6-string company, which just arrived two days ago. Not the finish I would have picked out had it not saved me hundreds of dollars to do so, but when she arrived I was very pleasantly surprised...the honeyburst finish looks waaay better than online pictures do justice to it. The Duncans have great character and absolutely rock on top of the Suveyor's EMG-driven grooves. I couldn't be happier with the pair.

It looks like it means business, it is built like a tank and feels really solid in your hands, it sounds amazing and the Floyd Rose stays in tune no matter what you put it through. I'm currently going to do a pickup shootout, find a winner, and replace the pickups of all 3 and add a coil tap on the volume for each.

I never had the new eclipse shape and knobs config, but the CS version, but I would assume the standards would not have any quality difference. I just think IMO the smaller horn and three knobs just looks wierd.:x

I feel the exact opposite, I dislike the Eclipse Is horn and I dig the pot config more that the Gibson style config. Each to there own :hat

That's all I really meant, and I agree. I wouldn't have thought there's be much, if any, quality difference, I just think the new ones don't look as good.

I have an old one, an ESP Eclipse Archtop. It's rare and was only produced in 1998. One of the best sounding and best looking guitars I've ever seen. Though some people may not like the color, but I like it. On stage it looks very special.
