Got my mark IV yesterday and so far im diggin it a bit but still having some trouble dialing in some good tones. Just thought i'd check and see what everyone here was using and hopefully it'll give me something to go from to get where i want to be.

also, anyone have any tips in dialing it in better?

This is a great site from boogie hints and tips. www.grailtone.com

As for settings try these. It's an amazing amp man, have fun with it.

Lead Gain: 8 (pull)
Lead Treble: 7.5
Lead Bass: 2
Lead Mid: 3
Lead Drive: 8 (pull)
Lead Presence: 3 (pull) or higher if you need more gain.
Lead Volume: 1.5
Master Volume: 3
Power: Tweed

Pentode / Class A or Simulclass/ Mid Gain

Simulclass - for warm fat-er sounds I guess (read the manual)
Class A - last two tubes working. Can produce nice gainy shredding tones.

EQ:

80 - Edge of slider on the top line or slider between mid line and top
240 - Right above the middle line
750 - Between bottom and mid line
(for scooped tone (Metallica), lower 750 right above the bottom line)
2200- Right above the middle line
6600- Slightly (3mm?) above the mid line

Here's some tips:

Treble, Lead Gain/Drive, and Presence all work together to produce gain.

Raising your Master Volume louder than the Channel Volume usually produces a better tone since it's mainly tube distortion your going to hear.

The way you pick will also change your tone usually making it more aggresive.

Guitar's wood and pickups make a huge difference so these settings may or may not meet what your looking for. I have an alder body guitar with a set of EMG 81's making it really bright so adjust these to your tastes.

If you need any more advice just ask away.

thanks man, yea i read through the manual and got a better understanding on how it works in conjunction with one another but im having some compression and dialing it out is what im trying to work on, just with keeping the saturation level i have. If that makes sense.

I've got a emg (81/60) loaded kh2nt so should be similar, except mine isnt bright sounding.

I'll say one thing, if anyone has doubts about amps wattage's = loudness they should try one of these out because holy shit  master and ch vol at 2 is bedroom loud, past that is really, really loud. I wasn't expecting that. I knew it packed a punch but damn i was more suprised than i thought i'd be.

If i can get me some good metallica tones down, some good log tones and my own down i'll be set, im pretty sure i'll be somewhere between the two. I think i can dial in the cleans and crunch i'll use based off cleans but the lead is where im struggling a bit. Hopefully getting time this weekend to really sit and tweak will resolve that, as well as all of the help here.

The problem is you want 3 different tones out of it. Why isn't your own tone good enough for Metallica or LOG jamming?

THAT is the real issue here.

noo, i know it can do all those tones and i know that if i can get around there then i'll find what i dig overall. I dont plan to have 3 different settings and change between them. I just wanted to get a basis for fine tuning off of.
