I played that new Ibanez V with the DeActivator pick-ups when that guitar first came out. I played it through a Peavey JSX and a XXX. I thought they sounded fantastic. It's been a while since I played actives but they definately remind me of an 81/81 combo but with alot more life and dynamics. I don't think the diehard EMG/Livewire players would be a bit dissappointed with them.

Ive played them on that ibanez v, not bad but not great. Better than hz's, but not as good as real emgs.:evil They might sound better in a different guitar.:hat

I guess I should try them. people keep telling me that they are good but that I should buy two Emgs...and now I don't have the money to change the electronic part and dig a new slot for the battery in my mh

In that case I'd start with just exchanging the bridge pickup with a D-Activator and see how you like it. I would reckon the D-Activator will have a fairly good resale value on Ebay in case you don't like it.
Or, if you live in the EU, buy it at Thomann.de, install it carefully and if you don't like it use their money back policy.

I would say if you want an active sound, go with active pickups. The deactivators are only ok, dimarzio and seymour duncan both make better passives. If you want to go with a hotter passive, try a x2n or a dimebucker. The Gibson 500T is also great. I use to have those pickups and I know that those are better than the deactivators.

It's all about your ears man, and what sounds good to you. You'll find people that will swear by EMG's and then you'll find people like me that would litterally put ANY humbucker in DiMarzio's catalog in place of them, even for metal.
