Hey all,

I picked up a vb-400 the other day ($500 aud with case & strap, bargain here) and this is the first time i've had a viper. I knew there was the common problem of headstock weight dipping the guitar, so where abouts did you lot more your strap pin to? I'm a pit concerned about puttin it on the top horn for fear of splitting it. Pics and any other advice would be great

I've heard of people putting on the inside of the upper horn, that way it grips on to more wood. But you should be fine moving it to the tip of the horn, I think quite a few people here have done it without problems. If you are that worried about it take it to a local luthier. He'll probably do it for a small charge.

true ay, well it would definately be the most comfortable position i think too, maybe there's a way of reinforcing it too. you got any pics?

I have a Viper 500S and had the same problem with the neck dive. I didnt want to drill another hole in my brand new guitar so I bought a Levy's leather strap and it helped out a lot. I dont notice the neck dive anymore since the leather grips better than a regular guitar strap. If you dont want to drill another hole the leather strap will help keep the guitar in the right position.

it's not tha same thing: a well balanced guitar and a leather strap holding it in place.

it's up to you, if you're willing to drill new holes, fill old ones, etc.

a (rough) leather strap helps.
(simple fix but not quite the same ting)

Does anybody know if this happens with Viper basses too?
perticularly the 104?

I never got the splitting of the horn thing. I had a VB with the button on the tip and I never gave it a second thought. Balanced perfectly. I am still considering buying it back. No need to remind again there coyote ugly.
