Sup everybody? Well, I'm new to everything guitar but have had the desire to play for years. I finally went and bought myself an LTD kh-202 (hope this was an alright choice for a new player!?!) I listen to pratically all genres of rock/metal and I'm trying to find an amp to suit this playing style. I've seen alot of posts around the net saying go for amp modeling equipment but I want to be able to find the right sound/tone on my own. If anyone can help me out with this decision that would be cool. I'm willing to spend anywhere from $600-$1000 for the amp whether it be a combo or 1/2 stack. Also, anyone know the pros/cons of the kh-202? Thanks!

If you can, go with the KH-202. There are many other fine beginer guitars as well. Look into the Line 6 Spider III's for a beginer amp. They are great for you. I don't imagine you needing a halfstack just yet.

Also look around at other LTD'd that fall under the $400 mark. You can find many good entry level guitars at the site I posted.

hey, listen. you really dont need that much money for starter gear. its fine that you can spend that amount of money, and your guitar is perfect for a beginner. but i suggest getting like... a roland microcube
http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Roland-Cube-30X-Amp-with-COSM?sku=487032
its really versatile and great for beginners. and maybe even getting a boss me-20 effects pedal if you really want a specific tone.

its really easy to dial in sweet tones from metal to blues to rock. whatever you need. just test it all out at your local guitar shop. they'll definetly have all these things in stock.
and be careful with that floyd rose on your guitar :)

Thanks for the replies! What should I know about the floyd rose. I know thats its not an original, hope that wont cause me any problems. Should I have bought one without a floyd rose? Sorry for the ignorance guys!

You will see when you attempt to restring and retune the Floyd. Its a bitch. No fun involved at all.

Not to mention if you even look at that thing sideways, bam, it'll go out of tune. Licensed floyds tend to.......bend a little, under heavy use. So try to avoid using the trem, for your own good.

oh no its fine that you got one with a floyd rose. just when you re-string it, if you have any experienced guitar player friends, you should invite them over and let them help you. thats what my friend did a couple days ago with me because he just got his first electric guitar so i showed him how to re-string on a floyd.
but if you have any problems just ask us were here to help

+1000 on this one, but if you're not sure about having a "high gain" sound, maybe a AD30VT (non-"extreme lead") would be better. I own an XL. Its F'n great. Thought it sounded ALOT better than the Line 6 Spider III, but alot of people here like them.
For (smaller)amps, its Roland Cube, Vox, or Line 6. I recommend at least a 30W. You proabably dont need more, since ur just starting. a 202 series with a $1000 amp seems overkill to me. If you want to spend that much on an amp, I'd upgrade guitar to a higher quality wood or at least better pickups. KH-202 is a fine beginner guitar though. def. didnt go wrong there.
Have fun learning to restring Floyd... i dont have one...but at least you'll have something to do when youre not playing, lol. I wouldve recom. a non-trem. but you'll figure it out.
One more thing.... dont worry about effect pedals. Those amps have some effects built in and maybe they are not the greatest, they'll work. Keep your focus on PLAYING for now. Probably should get a tuner(i hated tuning by ears for a LONG time when i was first learning) and a metronome(in near future).
keep it fun and congrats on guitar
Get a Roland Microcube and save the other 900.

I decided to leave the arm off of the floyd rose for the time being......i didnt see myself doing any dimebag harmonic squeals anytime soon.....also i wanna learn the right way so i figured string bending would be the right choice for now.?! Thanks for all the replies. What do you guys think about the peavy valveking 112?

60W Cube or Voxad50vt are $100 less.
Since youre just learning, idk why you need to spend so much. Those amps are loud as F in your garage/house. 30W amps are LOUD as F in a house.
If youre just starting, try a Vox AmPlug or a pocket POD($40-60). Im gonna get one of these b/c there are times I wanna practice but its gonna piss everyone off when I crank up my amp.
You've gotta long way to go before you'll wanna crank out something the neighbors will hear. If your talking about learning "string bending", you are very new to playing (which is fine). imo, you dont need a $400 50W amp. When I first started playing, I didnt even use an amp b/c I hated hearing my shitty playing at high volume.

Regular old POD w/ some nice headphones. So you can record some stuff for all of us to hear your progress man!

The Valveking is a really great amp, but it's probably more than you need (and I don't mean that in a disrespectful way.)
Get a cube, it's a great amp for the price and if in a month you decide guitar isn't really your thing you won't have a big hole in your wallet.

Good choice with the KH-202.
It's fine to start off with.
If you grow tired off it's sound after you progress at guitar simple put active EMG's in there.
You wont have any problems with the Floyd if you follow the basic laws of physics. :D

Definitely a great starter guitar. Whatever amp you go with, make sure it is something simple, allowing you to concentrated on your playing, not tweeaking the amp.

I'm sure it's a fine amp, but half the time beginners can barely tell the difference between the tone of a Marshall and the Line 6 Spider preset modeled after it.

I had a DC-2 for years, ran an EQ in the loop, pumped it through a 4x12 when I needed more push than the 1x12 gave me. I bought it after much debate over the DC-3, but I just didn't need moar pow3r. I forsake the DC-2 after about an hour with the first gen Flextone combo. Sorry, but the EL84 DC's always felt a little dead to me, vs. other tube amps, like the DC-5 and 10, Trem O Verb, and even digital when it came to any of the Line 6 Flextone series.
I donated the DC-2 to a church, so they could have something that did DI as well as give the guitar player his own speaker separate from the monitor. I don't miss it one bit. Not a bad amp, but there is plenty better out there, including digital, IMO.

or they dont know how to use it (gain=10, volume=10, etc) "this amp sounds like sh!!"
For a beginner, the less things they can mess with, the better.
Tune to E and play.

The KH202 was my first guitar too! I loved that fucker but changing the strings was a pain in the ass at first. Don't forget to loosen the locking nut before tuning or snap. My first amp was a Marshall MG15CDR. Big mistake!
I recommend either Line 6 or the Cube. Shit the 15W should be all you need for now. 15W is loud enough to piss off everyone in your house.

Play what you wanna hear! Thats the ticket. Be yourself in a sense that you love the music you like. Other than that, just practice your ass off and stay motivated. Never give up! Dimebag did say that giving up was a "Dumb assed loser attitude", and I firmly agree with that. Best of luck to you!
