I have a LTD F-50 and I want to change my pickups for a better song. I love metal, but I don't have an idea for my new pickups. Can somebody help for me please?
(I'm french, sorry for my poor english ;) !!! )

I suggest you get a better guitar instead...
Not worth the trouble IMHO...

I haven't enough money for a better guitar, that's the problem. But I think about 2 EMG 81. I can have these for lower than 200 € (near 200 dollars).

KH Guitar Freak, go easy on the dude aight? I bet you wouldn't like it if someone tells you to get another guitar when you just got yourself a new guitar right?
Hey p-s-y-c-h-o-p-a-t-h,
Nice guitar you have there, I like the F series too.
There are many pickups out there for metal. I can give you my personal opinion, but it may not be what you want.
Have you checked out DiMarzio.com and Seymourduncan.com ? Unless you're into active pickups?

I'm just saying what is best for the dude...
KH is right though...i have an F-50 myself, and i gotta say, the agathis body is really horrible when it comes to sustain and resonance. but if you really want to swap pickups, i'd go with dual EMG 81s. i actually plan on doing this upgrade on my F-50 as well.

Yes, I have seen the Dimarzio website. I love the D-Sonic's stat. To be honnest, I hate Seymour Duncan's song. Iwant absolutly active pickups to have more power, and just for this.

Ok Duke VII. But I hate sustain, I love songs with an very heavy an digged distortion and absolutly no reverb.

i'd go with the EMG 81. everybody have this cuz it rocks. the sound is really heavy and its good like that :). but well.. I would recommand to buy a f-250 for 500$ (only 200 bucks more than the f-50) because on the f-250 you have a tremolo bars and then u could buy emg 81 and put it on the f-250. why not buy the f-400? well the look is cool... but the tremolo bars isn't in there... so if u want to buy a 400 serie... i would recommand any but this one even if the looks is cool cuz u kinda... lost money when u could have a tremolo. but if the f-250 could be in Mahogany It would be a lot better.
In the 400 series i would recommand the m or the mh if u want a tremolo, the ax-400 or the f-400 if u want style.

Do use the neck pickup at all? I don't and it's a waste of money to buy an upgraded one if you don't use it.

I can't have a tremolo because I often change my guitar tuning. I use my two pickups: bridge for the speed metal and neck for the power metal.

neck for power metal?
u use an lh 100 neck pickup for power metal?
save ur money get one 81
then use that cuz u can play all sorts of metal on it!
then u can save up for a better guitar

Save up, buy a used f400 cheap with emg 81s on ebay. it will be a WAY better choice overall. don't bother with the 250 series because it still has agathis. maybe the f 300 but that will have similar pick ups. just save up and get a 400 series.

I wonder , why are the LTD guitars, more specifically, the -50 series
(with the Agathis bodies).. Are priced almost the same as a Made in Indonesia IBANEZ (with Mahogany / Basswood body)?
If this is the case, the Ibanez would be a better buy isn't it?
(We're only looking about the quality/sound here, not the unique looks of an LTD)

okay... im quite the veteran when it comes to using cheap agathis guitars so here is my best advise.... get a single emg-81 for the bridge and dont even wire up a neck pickup. Agathis is naturally kind of muddy sounding, especially the neck so thats why I dont fuck with it. The emg-81 will tighten it up some and make it a bit more crisp. Its similar (and you may want to do this as well) to using a tube screamer pedal along with your amps gain.

So, thank you everybody for your advises. My Korg AX1500 have a really better song now. I have bought two EMG-81. That's great for metal and finaly the agathis have a good song.
Thanks for all...

I agree with the 81 thing to an extent... overall, active pickups help mask agathis's tone a bit more than passive pickups.
the not wiring a neck pickup... seriously... WHAT? what if he uses the neck pup a lot for leads? or cleans? there a just some tones overall that the neck pickup, in an agathis guitar or not, can do much better than a bridge one... I'd personally go for an 81/60 combo in Agathis if I had no other choice... but overall, I'd much rather go for not just a non-agathis guitar, go for a better guitar overall

i recently got a viper 100 fm ( pretty shit , agathis , bolt on etc. ) but it was £100 with a EMG 81 in the bridge , neck pickup was disconnected , and i haven't missed the neck pickup much even though i thought i would . the 81 sounds amazing even with a agathis body .

i have a mahagony Viper with an 60 in the neck and 81 in the bridge, i guess if i didnt go for the full over hall it would have saved me money and lost one pickup....it cost me almost 300 US to do the full over hall 160 for the pups and 75 for the install/rewire

Mate, it's not worth it, it'll be better putting the money aside for the moment and muster up some more to put towards a better guitar.
You will thank me for it later.

The only reason an Agathis body is going to sound good with an active pickup is because it's going to drown out some of the agathis sound.
