Hey guys, I was just wondering, I know there are several different versions of the HZ EMGs, and I was wondering which ones were the equivalent of the 85 and 60. I wanted to get an alnico version for used in the neck position for cleans. Does anyone know which HZs are the passive equivalent of which active EMGs? Thanks in advance.

active and passive emg's are like two different animals..theres no active emg equivalent in the hz series(imo, they're really different), i liked the H1 neck alot though.. try that un!

none will ever be equivalent due to actives having higher output. Get the emg h4 its the most superior passive emg to my knowledge. and it sounds good in both neck and bridge

the h4 is a good passive pickup imo.

the ones with the A at the end have alnico magnets like the 85. the otehrs have ceramic like the 81 and 60.

the H-4 is the highest output of the Hz's, not the 'best' by any means, in fact, I think the cleans on that one are pretty lame... I dig the H-1 a lot for the neck... I'd imagine the H-1A would be kickass as well... I think I really want to try an H-4A(B)/H-1(N) combo

I'm actually thinking about using a SD SH-14 Custom 5 in the bridge with alnico HZ in the neck for cleans. :) So you guys say the H1 is best for cleans?

In my experience, yes... but I have never tried an H-2... what alnico HZ are you using? H-4A?

I guess I'd use either the H-1A or the H-2A.

h1 is kickass in the neck both for cleans and highgain soloing..imo

H1 sounds like the right one for me then. Do you think I should try the H-1A or just the normal ceramic one?
