Hey anyone who owns one of these, can you give me an idea of the tone from it? Im usually used to and like the tone of mahogany ESPs but wanna get something different this time around. I used to have a black SRC signature, but i didnt like it, i thought it lacked any balls, im thinkin it may be the same but hey thought id ask anyway. I may go for a MII NTB instead?
Thoughts plz

i dont have one. but ive played it and i say it pretty much like M-II's so if you can try it out first i'd say try before you buy. it plays very good. but not my cup of tea(no fr =/ )

The neck seems to have a more important role in the general tone of a neck-thru guitar than in other types of construction.* In the SRC, the Horizon (neck-thru), etc. you actually have more of a maple tone.

*There even are many discussions around the idea that the neck wood is more important to tone than the body wood.

So do you think the M1 will be less thin sounding so to speak!?

Well, I don't know about the M1. I just wanted to share a few thougths about "the tone of mahogany ESPs" (neckthrus) as we (at least I ;) ) have a lot of prejudices.

On another hand, my Horizon NT-II (EMG 81/60A) is my most "massive" sounding guitar against an ash G&L S-500, an alder Fender HSS (DM PAf pro/Virtual2/Virtual2 with OFR) and a stock mahogany Gibson Nighthawk (set neck).

I'm not sure to demonstrate anything here, but I was surprised of the comparison between the mahogany Nighthawk and the Horizon (maple neckthru and mahogany wings). I would have believed the Gibbie would be warmer than the Horizon but it was the opposite.

Thats really strange coz i had 2 NT-II guitars and i thought they were really bright sounding, even when i put an EMG 85 in the bridge. For me personally the viper has that tone ive been looking for, for soooo long.

I've said before that my NT-II is also a very bright guitar --nothing massive about it. Xochitl, you must have a special one.

i've not run into a SS esp that was maple/alder combo that wasnt uber bright sounding. Its gotta be the cheap woods used because my kh2nt is nothing even remotely close in comparison.

Well, actually I wrote that it 's MY most massive guitar compared to two strats and an all mahogany set neck (rosewood fretboard) guitar.
If the comparison with the strats is not very relevant to say the least, the comparison withe the Nighthawk surprised me a little. But is it meaningful to AB EMGs (81/60A) with stock Gibson pups ( a slanted hummy and a mini-hummy)? I'm not convinced myself...

Anyway, you can hear my sound in my band's myspace (http://myspace.com/PZLEN). Are you a member and Walpurgisnacht are played only with my NT-II and mostly with the 60A. On the first tune there are two main guitar sounds : the difference is from the amp and the recording mike.
BTW, pure metal? Somme may be surprised here. :)

I don't think I have a special NT-II, but I love it! ;)

I'm not sure to get your point, but I'm in another forum and two guys shared their conclusions on ABing a NT-II QM (mahogany wings) and a NT-II FM (alder wings) on the same rig. They failed on identifying which one was being played half the time.

Thank you guys! You're giving me an excuse to buy another guitar!
"Hey sweetheart, I need a warmer guitar. My NT-II is sooo bright sounding, I can't play the blues on it!"

Yummi Yummi

BTW, my next move will be to have an 85 on the bridge. 8o

it wont sound thin at all, it in fact sounds HUGE, even with the 81 in there :)
