Hi guys, just curious about this amp. I'm not going to buy it anytime soon but there's a shop in my city that carries it for €630. I didn't ask the salesman if he could plug it in since it was on the bottom of a couple of heads far away from the closest cabinet and I'm not going to buy it anyway, so my question is: how is it? Any good? Rubbish? Is it your typical SS Randall tone or does it have something extra?

I can't personally speak for it but here are a few YT videos.

I love it...
for me, it doesn't really sound that tube-like, but it's got probably the most kickass solidstate tone i've ever heard... it's got a HUGE bottom end, but still sounds sooooo tight...
it can nail both old-school Dimebag-ish tones, but can do some more modern tones as well... I'd honestly take one over some tube amps, ESPECIALLY for metal...
the cleans are ok... a bit dry, but the built-in chorus definitely helps a lot...

Thanks mates! Looks like I'm going to test this thing out for fun, some day. Who knows... something nice might come from it :)

That first video has a GMajor in the loop. Be aware that it has an EQ section and can dramatically alter the tone. I think the 2nd video is pretty accurate.

If you get it for gigging, get the 300W version. The 150W really struggles to cope with band-level volumes.

What would you say is "band levels"?? As in...doing pub gigs?? Or 3-400 stages??

the bass is too boomy on most randall ss amps but the rest is very good indeed .still not sure i would take one over a good tube amp but for inexpensive amps the rg series look good!

Since when is boomy bass a bad thing? I always hear nagging about Randall bass not being tight enough, but I myself sure prefer that Crowbar WOOF to ultratight ENGL-bass.

Randall not tight? you definitely heard wrong... besides, there's a bass knob in there for something :)

u are missing the point im not talking bass level but seperation and definition, its nowere near as good as a tube amp were the bass is really responsive and punchy and well defined.but i guess thats an unfair comparasion comparing the randall g3 to a higher quality more expensive amp .
ps still a great amp for its price ! as for prefering a boomy uncontrolled bass over an ultra tight fast more responsive punchier dynamic bass thats your choice but a strange one at that lol and yes u get the later with engl pure awesome .

Loose bass going everywhere bouncing off the walls in uncontrollable fashion = br00tal. :hat

well, yeah, I totally get ya man... I understand that for you, Randall bass sounds kinda detatched from the rest of the frequencies.. and I agree to an extent, I think the bass is very big and, if not eq'd correctly, It can get out of control, but, in my experience, it's definitely controllable... maybe you had a different experience, and I'm sure you have a different taste in amps, but yeah, I personally, that Randalls are very reliable and very good-sounding for their price.
Personally, I don't think the bass sounds that way becuse it's a solidstate, I think it sounds that way because that's the way it's voiced
And yeah, of course it's not gonna sound like a tube amp, it's not... but personally, especially for the kind of music I play, i'd take a G2 or G3 over some tube amps (especially not-so-high-gain ones) for metal

u should get out more ! maybe to an engl or bogner amp dealership lol
yegh rex i agree with what u are saying and really rate the randall g series very highly and oviously being solid state will effect the lower end frequencies big time.

I've never been to one lol, there aren't many :lol My friend just got an ENGL so I'll see, but the clip he recorded is nowhere near as tight as mine are so *shrug* I think it depends more on the player than the amp, but your amp can be really loose and tube amps are generally much looser than solidstate ones.

decent ability and decent gear always helps! theres some people out there that could make a bogner uberschall sound average, but when u can play well that amp will floor most others with ease.as for tube amps ive always found the quality high end names bring more warmth ,feel, power &headroom space compared to solid state amps

yeah it's pretty easy to get more headroom out of a tube amp lol, but that's not why I like my randall haha, it sound fucking brutal at non-ear-bleeding levels, lol
that being said, the V2 is the best fucking amp I've ever played, even better than the framus dragon imo. Although I judge amps by how tight they are and the flat sounding kinda "punch" in the face they give...the framus dragon is kinda like the randall of the tube amp world I guess...lol I dunno *shrugs* sound fucking awesome though.

It's a hybrid. Not 100% SS. One 12AT7 in the preamp.

man i know randall make great amps for the average metalhead guitarist but ive hear a lot about problems with their gear essp the newer range.on their forums there are a fair no of people that had to send their randall gear back to get fixed.a guy i know well livesin the same flat complex his randall has been back and forth to the store 4 times pure nightmare one of the main problems is overheating with there ss range.im not a tube nazi but i would rather have a tube amp over an ss anydays as their too many advantages mainly what ive listed above.
