Hi guys,

I'm just trying to collect some information about an old (early 90's) bolt-on "dUckhead" Horizon.

http://fr.audiofanzine.com/img/membres/normal/1/1/117900.jpg

His actual (2nd) owner doesn't know about the body and fingerboard woods (looks like rosewood to me on the picture).

He doesn't sound pretty sure about the scale either. Does someone know about its neck profile?

It also seems that pups are ESP stock : does someone know the models ESP put in at the time?

Any information or comment about this model would be appreciated! ;)

All guesses:

The fingerboard looks almost certainly rosewood.

The neck scale is almost certainly 25.5 (24 frets)

The pups are probably LH200's.

The body is hard to tell but the top is Maple (possibly Ash but my bet would be maple.) The neck is most likely maple and the body either Mahogany (my bet) or Alder.

It looks later than early 90's but I'm sure more knowledgable chaps will fill you in shortly.

Thanks. I'm waiting for a little more information from the owner. We'll see...

that really doesnt look like a maple top to me.. I can see the neck is maple and the fingerboard is rosewood. Body is probably mahogany.

I'd check the internet archive for specs, but it doesnt seem to work right now

I received some other pictures. Well, the owner believes it's a maple top on alder body, but it actually looks like an all ash body (grain pattern not soft enough to be maple or alder).
I couldn't find it in the japanese site. It must be a model issued before 1998 (even if it looks a little like the Horizon II Classic).
The funny thing : there's an other guy in the custom shop section looking for information on this same model.

Ash body, maple bolt-on neck, and rosewood board, 25.5, and fairly thin neck I believe.

I guess the neck is thinner than the nowaday Horizon NT-II. Am I right?

I've never played that particular bolt-on Horizon, so I can't say for sure. I've read reviews where people have said the neck was very thin. As far as the NT-II is concerned, I've heard people refer to the standard series necks as "beefy" and not as thin as other brands, however my NT-II neck is very thin, and I'm an Ibanez Wizard fan. I was pleasantly surprised to find it was the same thickness as my H-300, which is much thinner than my MH-250NT.

Well. I own an NT-II and i definitely don't feel its neck is that much thin. I've got a 90's US Strat Classic Floyd Rose and and G&L S-500 and their necks feel thinner than the NT-II. I like very much the NT-II's and I would easily agree its neck is on the beefy side.
Neckthrus may need bulkier dimensions than bolt-ons. That's why I also guess the bolt-on Horizon may have a thinner neck than the NT-II.

You call this beefy?

:lol
It isn't a 59 LP, but it's indeed beefier than my strats. Believe me, I was a little surprised when I first played my NT-II.
