How do you feel about this pedal... I've been using it for several months now and in my opinion it's not great! It's not adding anything for me... I use a Marshall JCM900 and the sounds is not getting any 'thicker/crunchier' :\ Anyone knows some other (read: better) alternatives?

In many many people's opinion it isn't great either, what took you so long to discover that fact? :rollin

You post makes no sense, along with your lack of help.

I think you would benefit more from an OD pedal (ZW-44, TS808, OD-9, etc.), instead of an MT-2, which I consider more of a distortion pedal. While the MT-2 can be used as a boost with its built-in EQ, IMO Marshalls just seem to sound/react better with overdrives.

The MXR ZW-44 sounds really great at the Dunlop-site! And looks

I like the metal zone...its good for getting extreme/nasty sounds, good backup incase you are in a situation with a shit amp and great when used as a boost.
Other good distortion pedals: EH Metal Muff, RAT.

the JCM 900 is a decent enough sounding amp. Its not teh 1337, but its still a good amp. If you are looking for a thicker sound out of it then maybe a graphic, or parametric EQ would be what you are looking for.

Go with an overdrive pedal. I've tried using the MT-2 as a boost but it seemed to drag my tone down.

Super overdrive, Tubescreamer or the bad monkey if you want to make your marshalls distortion better. If you want to use the metal zone as a stand alone distortion, dont over use the gain or eq, Kinda keep everything in the middle especially the gain.:hat

I used to use one all the time years ago before I got into Line 6 amps.

drop the distortion to nothing, crank the volume. and tweak the parametric eq.

the MT-2 works just fine for me.
it may be cose of my bottom-line gear.
i use a 30w HIWATT Bulldog, which i wouldn't dare to call "decent".
but the pedal seems to bring the best out of it.
and consider also the bang for the buck ratio.

I used to have an MT-2 for use with 1 channel (clean) amps and boy did it suck.
I could never find my tone. I guess it could only generate tones that I was NOT looking for.
The MT-2 is also awful when you use it with 2 guitarists. Either you're too loud or you just can't cut through. Awful.
Amps own distortion FTW!

since when did any overdrive pedals come stock with an onboard PARAMETRIC EQ boogie?!?!

The truth?
The MT-2 is a very decent pedal with gobs of distortion... and lots of tonal flexability as well due to its parametric Mid Sweep function. Something to note however is that on all Tone knobs it has a +/- level of 18 dbs!! That is far too wide of a sweep for the average noob to use discretion with. Interesting it is also enough to confuse even some of the most experienced players into widely sweeping the knobs to & fro and when they have already swung far past(most likely several times) what could possible be their ideal dirty tone within the pedals limits, they declare the pedal "only capable of total shite garbage rancid poop distortion" & end up selling it for much less than they originally paid for it. The MT-2 continues to be 1 of Boss's best selling pedals regardless of this occurence.
On the cleaner side?
Do not expect less than grainy sounds from it-it is a distortion pedal(ds-1 derived) & not a simple boost pedal(ala:ts-7,9 & 10; zw-od, sd-1 & 2). But it has just as much gain as a 5150 can muster, if not more.
I have owned a MT-2 since about 1993-4 and like it very much-from tool to smashing pumpkins to pantera all with SMALL moves on the EQ knob. The smaller the better in fact, especially when sweeping that mid freq knob. I would prolly still be using it had i not dropped it on the corner of my wah pedal and all the main eq knobs broke off. :\
Small moves are where its at with this pedal. Try it out.

trust me, i didn't mean that in a totally condescending way.. but since i've had the thing for over a decade & have used it constantly since about a couple years back.. i think that qualifies me as an experienced user vs the average guy that has had it for about 2 weeks or thereabouts.
agreed?
All I'm saying is it takes some finesse to make the brutality enjoyable.

Fair enough. But it shouldn't be MY problem that it is so hard to adjust properly.
I want my shit to allow me to dial in tones quickly.
That said: I still don't like the tone. It's like people saying they don't like Marshall and we all respect that too.

I've never used a real MT-2 before, but the PodXTLive version seems to be decent when I fiddled around with it...

I use a TS808... does wonders for the tone. Adds a bit more crunch and tightens things up for me.

Multi Band EQ does wonders for an amp. The Kerry King version (MXR) etc... even a simple 3 band one... There are lots of things that will boost the chunk in distortion, EQ being one... Tube Screamer also but that to me adds great overtones, not necessarily chunk but crunch.... mixed with your amps distortion is definately cool. I have the POD xt Live and that thing is awesome, just buy that... and you can try all kinds of shit, and record amazing sounds... save your money!! heh..
Listen to my recorded sounds lemme know what you think. It's all xt Live, Peavey Wolfgang (bad ass pickups) and.... hmm thats it. Oh MRX Super Comp and Smart Gate... huge sound.

No Eq???????????????? :rollin
I can get a HUGE variety of sounds from it...The EQ is extremely versatile. I'm in no way saying it's the best sound in the world over amp distortion, that would be silly but it is a very versatile and useable metal distortion. It is also true that it's very easy to make it sound shit which is why I think a lot of people just assume it's crap...

Its a very good practice pedal. Ive played around with them a bit and would suggest it to any newer players with small amps. The only problem is it doesnt really cut through at high volumes so if your using it with other instruments its just gonna sound like a buzzsaw.
