Can anybody post some pics or specs for the Cutom 7 string that Devin had made?

Also, my first post here :D

Well, I don't like divulging what I actually paid. Retail quote was $6000 w/case.

Wasn't cheap, but it was worth it. Great guitar.

Well than $6000 is what I ave to make :)

How do you go about ordering the custom ESP's anyway?

If I just asked them to make an exact copy of what they made for Dev, would they do it?

Jeez, even a green Stef would suffice! :p

SYL

Get a B7 if you're going that route. The green Stef 7 isn't a baritone. That is depending on how close you want it to Devin's spec of course.

I secretly wanted that guitar and the retail I was given was a grand more 7 months after you got it...lol I'm actually gonna sell my B7. It's great but I like neck pickups...lol

Wait, so is Dev's a baritone or not?

If I got this (or any 7) I would use it for GCGCGCe tuning :)

His is a baritone...I think.

SYL

Yes, Devin's is a 27" baritone. If you're going to tune to G I would definitely recommend getting the extended scale. You can do it on a 25.5" scale (Green Stef) but you'll need to use something like a 68 gauge string for decent tension.

Ouch.

Yeah, price of everything custom with ESP seems to be going up about $1000 a year. It's nuts.

I'm actually waiting on a quote from Jackson right now. And looking at their order form retail prices is mind boggling compared to what it was in 1997.

Well, I guess I'll keep saving for that custom! How long was the wait before it was shipped to you?

SYL

8 months

JMad81
11-21-2007, 09:47 PM
8 months seems pretty quick, doesnt it usually take a year or more?

I cant believe quote is 6k, and i thought they were expensive when the quotes were like 4k.

SYL

They were ahead of schedule apparently around this time last year. That's what I was told anyway. I too was surprised at how fast the build time on this one was.

if yr gonna play in a tuning that has a low G, with the fury that devin does it in, you definately need a baritone to keep things from "wobbling"

I play in G on a 25.5" scale Viper-407. Sounds fine.

To most ears, you're right. I bet you could benefit from a baritone though. I know I'd notice an IMMENSE difference.

darkalone
11-30-2007, 12:03 AM
I'm sure it would help, I don't dispute that at all.

But it's not like you CAN'T do it with anything less than a baritone scale. Because you can, and I do.

just get a SC607B. If they're good enough for Dev, then they're more than good enough for you!

I know the pickup placement is meant to tighten the sound or something but it just kills it for me, you pick right against it come on.

I have an SRC 6 string, with two hums and a single coil, and I was worried about that too before I bought it, but I've never once actually had an issue with it getting in the way. You have to be picking ridiculously deep to actually make it an issue.

Either way, SYL's horizon there is one of my all time favorite guitars. That thing is a monster.

If you have ridiculously terrible picking technique then it would likely be a problem.

I was gonna say something similar...

I like to think my technique is better than shithouse but even I can concede I'll occasionally run into a centre mounted pickup. :o

I've never had a problem picking on mine. Funny I've been hearing people bitch about the middle pickup for years until they try it....then its " oh I thought it was gonna get in the way.. Cool". lol

+1

I have never had a problem with the middle hum. Why would you be hitting it with your pick? It doesn't make any sense. If you are hitting a middle hum it is all in your technique, and it's something you should fix anyways.

mm...no... you said "you pick right against it" in your first comment, possibly implying you constantly hit yours.
Others here, like myself, have no problem not hitting the pickup. I don't see why you need to play the "typical" card as though everyone was somehow rude just because others didn't agree with you. Don't see how it's that big a deal...

nikt

I had problems with that. First I put my middle pickup a little bit lower and just get used to it, then I set it like I wanted (and that was way higher) and don't have problems with that now

and the problem came from my previous guitars. all 2hb or single HB, and I didn't have to watch how far (deep) I'm putting pick under strings

If you're hitting your middle pickup with your pick your technique is not "just fine".

I've had the SC-500, SC-607B, and now my SRC.. no middle pickup problems..

Matt, you can expect an actual price range of $4200-4800 on a $6000 retail price, depending on your dealer.. Some dealers may do a little better than 4000, but wouldn't expect any lower than $3900.. Actual price paid is generally 70-80% of the MSRP.

You can get a custom shop built B7 for about half as much as a custom order. Bang for the buck.

Haha. I actually emailed nileguy about that guitar earlier this week, but you beat me to the punch. Congrats on the axes. You've probably got the most desirable bunch of guitars on the board as far as I'm concerned.

Any more pics of the B7?
