Hi. First time poster. I hope this is in the right section-- I couldn't find the X-Tone section, and these are not custom/signiature guitars so...

I just picked up my Paramount X-Tone PC-1V that I bought directly from musicians friend. Here is the exact url:

http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/ESP-PC1V-Paramount-with-Bigsby?sku=516695

I got the brown sunburst.

The reason I bought it over another version is because it supposedly has Duncan Jazz and JB pickups. However, the problem is that there are similar versions that have just generic Duncan Alnico 2 pickups.

I looked in the ESP catalog that came with the guitar, and on page 60 it shows the X-Tone series PC-1V coming with Duncan Alnico 2 pickups and NOT Duncan Jazz/JB!!!!

I am now worried that this guitar I bought has the Alnico 2's and not the Jazz/JB's because the catalog says the PC-1V comes with Alnico 2's!!!

The pickups have no identification marks of any kind.

I just looked through the owners manual and there is a detachable card at the back for the guitar specs. The person who inspected it already filled it out, and he/she wrote in "ALNICO 2'S" in the both of the pickup spots!

It turns out that my suspicions of somehow getting ripped off are correct. I will contact musicians friend tomorrow....

I don't mean to be rude or anything, but um... I'm asuming you tried the alnico 2 set and didn't like it?

what kind of tone where you expecting to get out of it?

Hey its ok. The alnico 2's sound fantastic, but they have the model advertised as jazz and jb's which I think are more expensive, therefore they are ripping me off.

I have this overwhelming feeling of being taken advantage of. Hard to explain.

I honestly can't see myself packaging the guitar back up and sending it to them.
I know this is kinda stupid (there is nothing wrong with the guitar and it sounds great).

If you like the guitar keep it.

It sounds like you do.

Please post pics now, thanks.

I use the web as information gathering device. I needed some sort of confirmation that I was/wasn't getting ripped off somehow-- im not using this as a social outlet.

I don't care if some people have a problem with the post, nor do I care that someone doesn't get the extreme irony in actually typing that my thread was the most pointless you have ever seen.

God knows this board is filled to the brim with mind-expanding pointfull threads eh?

Anyway pick and grin and everyone limit your internet time otherwise you'll take it too seriously...

I say if you like it, keep it...

since KHGF hasn't seen this thread apparently, I'm gonna say what he'd surely say:

you ain't missing much with the JB, to be honest...

if you really really have a problem with the alnico 2 set, then return it... If it's advertised as a different thing, you have all the right to ask for a refund...

Thanks for the tip on the JB pickup. I was hoping it was excellent due to reputation. I'm keeping the guitar as is and I'll try and see if I can at least get Musiciansfriend to correct their specs.
At this point it would be like taking a puppy home for a week as a loaner and then bringing him back to the pound-- he may not be what you were initially looking for, and there is NO way in hell you're bringing him back!

The alnico2s sound very transparent and musical, but I was really looking forward for a hotter bridge sound with a bigsby. I have a gig in Hamilton this Friday that I wanted to debut this guitar with. Oh well, I'll stop my whining I promise!

Pick and grin!
