5150 1 2 3 and 6505 6505 + which one is the best ? personally i find the 6505s are easier to work than the evh 51503 but id like some input an all of em
i tried the 5150III @ samash and it seems like more work than the 6505s
also who produces the EVH is it fender?
and by best i mean
versatility
maintainability
overall tone
and lifespan

Well... the 5150III costs about twice as much...
5150 = 6505
5150II = 6505+
The Peaveys aren't really all that versatile, but they've got a decent-ish clean/crunch, IMO. Really good high-gain tone, tho. Never played the III.
Quite honestly, if versatility is your main concern, look elsewhere. The 5150 (IMO, of course) is awesome at high-gain stuff, and can sort of pull off other lower-gain stuff, but it doesn't really excell at those.

never played the III but from what I hear, it's the most versatile of the 5150's...

Am currently trying to find a good condition 5150 II but if I can't i'll go for a 6505+, but will rip the arse out of my pocket though.

Played the evh III about a week ago, cant say I was blown away.
For the money, the 6505 is worth it more IMO

They 6505+ can be had for anywhere between $550 to $800 USD on ebay. You just have to get lucky. I sold mine a few weeks ago along with a rack mounted BBE for around $850

If any of you had functioning ears, you would know why the 5150 III costs twice as much. :)

I played 1 for about 20 minutes or so.. never got a chance to really crank it up.. it was allright but again seemed like only 2 channels & the rhythm channel was still noisy-this from the company that makes some of the chimiest sounding amps ever-Fender. Was sort of disappointed tbh.

Yeah, the latest Testament record was recorded with one of those. Goddamn, that record sounds good!

I love the new 5150s, a massive improvement over the 5150 I and II and 6505s. Better cleans, better high gain, takes overdrives better, just sounds better. Granted its mega expensive, but stacked up next to each other there really isn't any comparison.
I don't particularly like the old 5150s and 6505s though, I know I'm the only one, they just don't do enough for me. The cleans are just bad and not clean and it has to be REALLY loud to get a decent heavy tone out of. Not that I'm against playing loud, but I don't really like to play at band levels by myself all the time. It wins in tone too.
I know people who have had their 5150s for years and they still play em and love them and besides regular tube changes they haven't broken down on them... and I know a few guys who blew up one or 2 (I think they might have been 6505s tho now that I think about it)
But the 5150 III is the winner far and beyond for versatility at least in those 3. If you are looking for a versatile tube head, there are much much better options out there.

I've owned a 5150 "block letter" and now current use a 5150II and have played the 51503 many times and have to agree the 3 is "the best" of the three amps. simply for versitility. I love my 5150II "lead" tone but can get the same outta the 3. The 3 does have a better clean channel but still isnt anywhere near the fender clean you wold think it would have.
Between the 5150 (6505) and the 5150II (6505+) I'd go for the II (or +). The tone isnt as "buzzy" which is why I sold the 5150 I had. Plus the extra EQ adds some what of a clean channel.
Even though I love my tone now I'm looking to sell it soon for a valveking actually. Much nicer clean and a "fuller" lead tone at all volumes. My 5150II sounds best at 3-4 and I hate having to play that loud just for it to sound good. My old band had a big rehersal space so it wasnt a problen then but the guys I'm jamming with now haver a smaller space thats actually a full studio. I cant really get that loud without drowning everyone else out. And since it's already got great acoustics I'd rather fit into their mix then they turn up to me. They aready sound great and I dont want to mess that up. I'm the new guy.
And I've only played 5150 series since I was 16 (im now 27) so I think it's time I try something new.
I did see a used Krank Chadwick that caught my eye. Kinda curious about those as well as a VHT Deliverance

Yeah... well the Peavey 5150 does not have a dedicated clean channel... just a rythm channel that can get kinda clean.
