I recently bought an ESP LTD EC100, I love it. Very pretty and sounds great.

Only problem was, the strings would buzz a lot, because its tuned to drop-C. So I switched to the Ernie Ball Heavy Top Bottom strings, and that fixed most of the problem.

Now if I hit the strings harder than normal (not banging on the guitar, just hitting the strings it buzzes. Especially with the capo.
So I go to raise the bridge, just half a turn or one turn and the E string "rattles" when struck open.

How do I remedy the rattling? I just need to raise the bridge maybe a turn and a half. Maybe two.

Thanks.

It's more a neck adjustment needed than raising the bridge.

If it buzzes or rattles a lot when you play the open string, and the string up near the first few frets - the neck is backbowed and will need to come up a little. If it buzzes when you play around the 12th fret more, then there is too much relief in the neck and the truss rod will need to be tightened a little.

You can download the esp guitars manual online and that will tell you what I have told you and also how to adjust the truss rod and fix it. It's good to learn and once you get it right, the guitar will play much better.

You can always take it to a guitar tech who can do it very quickly and easily if you're not sure.

yep if it is buzzing or frets out around the part of the neck closer to the nut it does sound like it is backbowed and the truss rod may be too tight. If you are unsure how to make this adjustment it might be a good idea to take it to a good guitar tech.

If ya don't know what's causing the problem, ya probably shouldn't be the one fixing it. If you're going from a standard E tuning to a dropC, its a good idea to get a "setup" esp. if you've never had it done from the beginning.

If ya find a small music store to do it, they may show/teach ya how to do some things too.
