Check the lockin' system, some times is not full closed, and if it's your first guitar with locking system maybe you don't check it well....

Maybe you guitar is not calibrated... is very usual when the guitar it was in the store for a long time and after a long trip, the change of temperature and humidity could affect the calibration of your instrument and the correct tune...
If you change the string gauge you MUST re calibrate your guitar, because the string tension and mass is different so this change affect the calibration and entonation of your guitar... the same thing if you change the string tune.
I suggest go to a guitar "Luthier" to set up correctly all those aspects and check the Sperzels for a good working condition.
Cheers

Sometimes if the string is not centered in the bridge saddle when you tighten the block, it will ride the side of the saddle slot and won't tune properly. Also, sometimes there are small burrs on older, well used trems where the strings will dig a notch/groove in the saddle, and the string will pop in and out when you use the trem. Wiggle the string side to side right next to the bridge and see if there is any catching or "pinging". If the saddle is grooved, take a small triangular file wrapped with fine grit sandpaper, and you can gently smooth the groove.
Isn't a smooth groove what it's all about?

Viper 1000's are Tune-O-matic bridges with stop tailpieces, not trems.

Whoops.
I read the term "locking system" as I scanned the thread, and my mind interpreted "tremelo".
What makes it all the worse is that I play exclusively Vipers, so you would think I'd know better.
