Need advice on new pickups. I have luthier copy of prs, it's made of mahogany + ebony (neck) and walnut on body, I believe, so it has very dark and warm tone. And here;s the problem for me. It's too dark, at least on cleans. I have sd dimebucker in the bridge and some dimarzio in the neck (but don't ask me what dm - idk). And I was thinking on set JB - '59. I mean - will be the JB good for br00tlz? If not, I'll keep the sh13 and buy only new neck pickup.
What I want in the neck is good clean tones, something like strat. Does the 59 have split coils?

And few cosmetic things. Would be better to get open coil pickups and silver pickuprings, or black pickuprings and chrome covered pickups?

Anyway - here are the pics:

I know, the second thread was made accidentally, just don't care about it.

What kind of sound are you after?

I'd go with somethings less powerful, as a lower power pickup would sound less compressed in the mids and more open on the treble end. A high power pickup will tend to push the mids in the foreground and that is probably your problem.

My best affordable recommendation: Seymour's SH-5 (Duncan custom, "PAF on steroids") is a good compromise between clarity and high gain, I think it would fit better in the bridge than a JB. For the neck probably a SD '59 or Paf Pro.
If you want more power, I would actually go with the EMG81 (b) and EMG 60 (n).

I can't think of a similar DiMarzio for the bridge I like right now, the ones I like are darker sounding pickups.

I was thinking about emg's too. 60 is nice pickup, I have it in my eclipse, but I'd like to have 89 in the bridge, cause it has split coils, and that's the thing, that I want the most. Yesterday friend of mine come to me with his prs custom 22. It has dragon II pickups, I believe, and the clean tone of triamp + this guitar in 4'th switch position (splited neck pickup) was great. Maybe not as great as real strat, but this guitar was more versatile. And that's something that I search. Sure - I can buy dragon pickups, but they are expensive. Much more expensive than Duncans.

Anyway, thanks for advice.

I'd still recommend you'd check out the SH-5. It might be just what you are looking for and it would be a cheaper and easier modification to just replace one pickup instead of having to change both AND all potis.
