I run an ADA MP-1(noise modded) through a Peavey Classic 50/50 Poweramp into a Standard Recto Cab. I'm having trouble achieve death metal/high gain tone in a live setting without having the amp sound like crap. Both mods seem similar in which they are both high gain mods, but which mod would sound better overall with my gear and genre? Also, how much would each mod roughly cost?

I've never heard the 3TM but I tried the 666 mod (cause it was cheaper and easier to do on my own) and the results weren't bad. I managed to dial in a lot more lower end body to it with the trim pots which I thought was the key thing that was missing from the stock MP1. give it a shot

Who did you use for parts? I'm looking at doing some mods to mine. I've got a few parts places bookmarked, but I don't have any experience with their product quality. Mouser is one, I hear good things about them, and I will be using Tube Depot for some components as I have had good luck with them. I am looking at Futurlec (http://www.futurlec.com/PotRot.shtml) as they seem to have replacement pots (50k dual, PCB mount) that I think will work for the FX and headphone controls, and for pretty cheap.

BTW, any idea if those pots on the MP-1 are linear or log? Log would make sense, but I'd rather get what it is 'supposed to be.'

i work at an electronics shop so i grabbed a lot of stuff from work. it was a long time ago, but from what i remember i had to order a few parts from mouser and digikey. I'm pretty sure I used linear pots too. i don't think it'd make too much of a difference, just a little more finicky if you use log pots

Thanks. The pots in it (FX and 'phones) are noisy as hell, so I want to swap them out. I may just recap it to stock, as I kind of like that old school sound, but I might try to make it just a little less noisy. The hot-rod Marshall mods are tempting, though.

I as well have heard much more about the 3.666. The sound clips sound similar though. I will definately be taking this to an amp tech to do. Are these mods irreversable or not and will I be able to use the noise mod with these mods or not?

well, unless you have a schematic or know what the original values of the caps and resistors that you're taking out you probably wont have it back in stock form anytime soon.

but trust me, the 666 mod is way better for metal than the stock mp1

MP-1 Page. (http://www.adadepot.com/adagear/gearpages/preamps/ADA-MP-1.htm) A great source for schematics, mods, manuals, patches, etc.

they break it down so anyone can do the mods themselves really. it's not difficult
