Hum from pups or Pots?

Just noticed on my worn brown paul studio that when I turn the volume knob on either pup while muting the strings. from 1-4 I get silence 4-7 I get a hum and 7-10 silence again,It's got aduncan JB/59 nit not coil taps.and fresh 500k pots I installed when i put the pups in.My Schecter S1 with the same body wood pup/pot configuration has silence at all levels while muting.

I'm wondering if i damaged the pots when I soldered the pups in the Paul??
