OK, so I have this situation thats kind of weird...I have a choice between a few amps- totally different in power and price but its the only choice I have due to certain reasons. My main goal from my new amp should be to give me a great hard rock to metal sound (lots of high gain and saturation preferably valve distortion).
I already own a Marshall TSL602 valve amp (no mods) thats in no means heavy enough for metal and Im not crazy about the overall tone either. So I want to upgrade to something heavier (and better sounding).
I also own a Spider 111 150 combo thats heavy enough but the sound is just to flat and digital sounding (I'm missing the valve tone).
My choices are:
1. Spider Valve 212
2. Blackstar Ht-5 (head or combo)
3. Krank rev jr.
4. even a line 6 hd-147 head and cab (if it will help my cause)
5. Some kind of Bogner amp not sure what its called (its a big black combo)
6. overdrive pedal for use in conjunction with the TSL602
7. Any other suggestions of amps, preferably combos (maybe I can find them)
I've been playing guitar for about 12 years and yet havent found the sound that Im looking for. I play punk, hard rock and metal mostly. Also I want to use the amp mostly for practise and small house party gigs (sometimes for recording).
O, I play a ESP eclipse with emg 81 in bridge and neck and a fender strat with invader in bridge, if that will help.
Pleaze help!!!

marshall VS100r or just buy a professional amp, after 12 years you're probably due.... mesa roadking, krank or ENGL, or check out a Randall, or get a multi FX with amp modeling, Boss GT8 hasnt failed me

As far as my understanding goes, the TSL's are sorta like the JCM900's, the SL-X's where there's diodes clipping rather than tubes to get the distortion... so it's sorta like a distortion pedal into a tube poweramp... haven't tried TSL's, but I haven't really heard many good things about them.

What's a 'professional amp'? Those Marshall VS100Rs are pretty sweet... but I wouldn't take it over a TSL.

OP, I'd pick up a boost or OD pedal and see if that'll get you sound you're looking for with the TSL. Other than that, there's an HD147 in the SPAM section if you're looking to pick one up.

Have you ever played it??
I bought the TSL combo many moons ago before I attempted breaking the sound barrier with my metal playing ;). Anyway, the TSL is definitely suited for blues to classic rock not metal.

I'd say get the krank or get an ENGL ;)

Ok, so I think I will first try an overdrive pedal or booster with my TSL.
I am pretty new to using pedals, any advise on which to go for???

Just get a used SD-1 or bad monkey etc for a few $/£/whatever your national currency and try it out. Try using less overdrive but more volume to push the preamp as too much overdrive might just be too messy.

Incorrect. It does not have a solid state clipping circuitry. I own a TSL602, and I dislike it as well. Much happier with other amps...
Anyway, to the poster, what kind of music are you into? I was gonna recommend them Laney Lionhearts, but it might not be heavy enough for you if you are into heavier metal stuff...

At last someone else who owns a TSL602. Most boring sounding amp in the world in that price range if you ask me. (I hate this amp so much that I wanne kick Jim Marshall in the groin for ever putting his name on such amp).
Well, I would like an amp that can go from Chevelle, Breaking Benjamin to Children of Bodom, "old school" Sepultura kinda tones. Obviously not exactly the same, I'm looking for a combo or small stack rather than what these guys are playing (which are top of the line stacks).
Money is not as much a problem as amp moving convenience.
Btw...What do you guys think of the Ibanez TBX 150R combo???

Combos aren't exactly any easier to move than a head and cab setup...

Out of those choices, the Krank is the most "metal" amp. I use mine with an Eclipse as well. But beware, it doesn't have channelswitching.

Depends which you buy, they have lots more models now, some footswitchable and they've just realised the krankenstein jr too! :)

I bought the only one I could find in stock in the UK, which was the original non-footswitchable Krank Rev Jr head.
