hey! I am going to buy a guitar shortly, and while i was researching, i narrowed my choices down to either the LTD EX 400 or the LTD Truckster. i wanted to know, what's the difference? they both seem to have the same pickups and the same strings... is there something else that affects the sound quality or something... could someone shed some light on this because i'm not too sure what the difference is other than the shape...

thanks alot guys!

truckster should be bettter quality but when u said explorer i thought u meant exp rather than ex, imo get something else like an EC 500 or 1000

Uh, the biggest tone factor on guitars is the woods used. AND the shape of the body (thickness, length etc.)

if you have to choose between those two, get the Truckster.

Hell no, it's ugly as fuck!

I've played the EX400 once and it was pretty good. Just as good as my Gibson EXP I must say! The craftmanship was also very nice, even better than my Gibson. But I may have seen an exceptional example?

nah get the LTD Truckster. I had 2 one time. Exellent for the LTD line. Had very bright nice cleans and really screamed when it came to distortion. Also a lot lighter than most guitars even though it has great sustain. Paint job is of course ....meh compared to the ESP but if you are going for tone get the truckster. You can always have it painted :)

Get the truckster, for no other reason than the EX shape sucks my taint.

The truckster is a nicer guitar to play.

I know you like yours Poid. But it will always be ESP's red-headed step child MX to me.

I have owned a EX 351 and LTD Truckster and the Truckster is way better. I sold the EX after a few months. The Truckster has good build quality and is a solid axe, with great sounding wood and high level spec hardware and lets be honest ESP wouldn't make the EX's pointy shape if it wasn't for the law suit.

The ex is a throw back, was designed too quickly, or that is the way it seems to me anyway

The EX is a matter of preference, not a throw back.

If it were 'designed too quickly' I'm sure they would have come up with a much improved design by now.

The LTD EX 400 is a pretty solid, well built and well sounding guitar for an LTD and for the price.

You just have to decide which one you like better. Get to a shop and check 'em!

Hey PT, I see a nice guitar collection in your avatar. Can you post the pic here?

Get the LTD Truckster, it's a great playing guitar. If you don't like the paint job just modify it a little. I brought mine down to the mahogany in a couple of places, looks 100% better IMO.
