Do you like V's, or more strat like bodies, like an RG?

35 Year old Ibanez. Wow.

I would suggest an Eclipse of sorts. (Have no idea why. But i just think you should buy one.)

I'm leaning toward the Strat like body but i've seen a couple V's that seemed alright.

I really don't know much about guitars and their components.

I wouldn't mind that but its a little out of my price range. not quite ready to kick in that extra 150-200 dollars on the guitar, besides i need a new amp( the one i have is just as old as the guitar).

Basically, you need to go to a guitar shop and try a few models from various brands. Some will feel more comfortable than others and some will sound better to you. Eventually you will gravitate to the one that suits your sound and style.
Then again, buying without playing is becoming more prevalent in today's market. (which is why Carvin and Edwards are steadily gaining more popularity) If a company has a good return policy, you really can't lose.
