View Full Version : MM-04 Preamp Booster?
Shreddy Vs Bassman

I'm interested in purchasing (still saving up for it) an ESP Saw Tooth (http://www.espguitars.co.jp/oversea/sig/al_st_std.html) (Alexi Laiho Signature Model)
I'm not really a fan of COB... but I gotta say this guitar owns (design-wise)
Since it has no tone knob, does anyone know exactly what does the MM-04 do to the tone?

it has 4 dip switches which decrease or increase certain frequencies. Also you can adjust a gainboost up to 20dB.
If you don't change any switches the sound won't be changed in any way.
Check out the japanese ESP site

mmm, i own the old one from musamaailma, mine is not a surface one, but as the old JE-1000 why the heck couldn't the use a trim pot instead of 4 dip switch switch??
By the way pair it with a emg 81 and it sings.. :lol
although i must say sometimes its cheaper to just get and afterburner or a Pa-2 and avoid the n00bness of using if you dont know what to pair it with.
Any way spend your cash as you like it, (i would also kill for a saw tooth)

MM-04 is a preamp booster which was specially designed for Alexi Laiho according to his requirement on seeking of the heaviest sound , and now it's available for all the guitar players as a regular production by joint development of ESP and the ESP Finish distributor , "Musamaailma".
4 frequency pre-set switches and a trimmer pot allow you to get any sound character you need.
by the way
(hope i dont get banned by this)
Why do the esp says it was specially designed for laiho?
Ill give you a 1000 internets that he would say he misses his old jb50c with his Jackson JE-1000 booster. ;)

So why doesn't he get one built?

Jackson doesn't built its booster and pickups anymore. So Mussamailma started to reproduce the JE-1000 for Alexi, made a few changes and called it MM04.
And now, as ESP wants to have their Signatures as close as the artists guitars and started to built their own MM04.
Basically you can say ESP specially designed it for laiho, but the idea of this booster still came from Jackson a while ago in 1987.
