View Full Version : Pickup rings

I recently bought an Edwards/ESP rv148 on eBay (kinda like an Alexi Laiho signature ESP/LTD, but with two EMG81s instead of one). Anyhow, the previous owner had taken out the original pickups and replaced them with cheapo GFS humbuckers, mounting rings and all. I have since put a set of EMGs back in the guitar, but am now stuck with the GFS mounting rings, which are slanted front to back. My tech guy told me that to work properly, EMGs should really be mounted in non slanted rings. So, my question is, does anyone know what rings ESP use as standard? I've tried every supplier I know, and eBay, but I can't seem to find any flat bottomed, non slanted mounting rings. I'd be really grateful if someone could point me in the right direction. I'm in the UK...
I had a problem getting flat pick-up rings as well. I'm in the UK aswell and had a couple of dealers saying that they can order them, but after weeks of waiting for them to arrive I just told them to cancell the order.
Eventually I found this place has them.

They're in the US, but they ship to the UK for reasonable prices.
I might have a couple spare at home (I'm at work now). I got some from Guitar Parts ... and ordered some spares, but can't remember if I used them. I'll look tonight or tomorrow and see what I've got.

I had a look over the weekend and I don't have any left.
You'll have to get some from Guitarpartsdepot

Not to say that your tech is wrong, but you want to use rings that allow the pickup to be parallel to the strings. In other words, the neck side of the pickup should be as far away from the string as the bridge side. (The pickup can be slanted so that's it's different distances away at the high and low E strings).
I've never seen an RV in person, so I don't know if slanted pickup rings are correct for you, but they are correct in my Horizon and Eclipse.

Really? Never heard of that.

they might give a slightly different sound, but i had a floyd recessed guitar (MH-100) and it had slanted pickup rings and therefore slanted pickups, but it was biggie, i dealt with it.
