try them both out yourself and see which one you like, i'd go for the mh cuz i prefer emgzors, but abalone is gross

I'd prefer the LTD. The SL3 is cool, but Jackson die cast tuners suck...badly. I think you would be getting a better deal with the MH1000, because its got EMGs, and better tuners (grover). Other than that, they both are cool.

I know, but why replace them if your paying $1200 for a guitar. i'd want it to have averything I want for that much. The LTD has good tuners, and its less money.

I would skip the SL3 and get a used USA soloist instead, much, much better guitars for the money.

Though it's getting harder to find decent used usa SL1 or SL2 soloists in the $1000 price range.
Another thought is early '90s Jackson Professional Soloist XL.

mh1000 now have trem... Mh1000 >SL3, played both, (well mh400) and sl3 sux.

One thing to check on the Jacksons is where they have the volume knob. On my USA Soloists it's right under where I like my trem bar, and I hit it on the way down.
