_ I have always enjoyed being a HUGE metal head, but like alot of people that have came before me, i have a interest in the acoustic as well- so its time i pick up another!
Any suggestions?
Martin.... Ovation.. Taylor, down falls for some, as well as high lights 8o
My last Morgan Monroe was an electric acoustic, with a very sturdy low end smoooooth tone, favorite of all, but the only down fall is i NEVER used it for an electric and as is it was very soft....
Thanks guys for any help ;)

I myself don't own an acoustic, I use the acoustic setting on my microcube, nice peizo steel string sound.
I've got a $300 Fender acoustic, it's good enough for me, but it doesn't even compare to Taylors and such, so if that's what you're after, there really isn't anything that's going to satisfy except the Taylor acoustic.

damn gaijin, i'd have gladly taken that Takamine off your hands... (even for more $)
i like Takamine, and pledge for it. it depends on the $$ you are willing to spend.
an acoustic can be a pretty sweet thing.

Taylor and Martin are obvious awesome choices if you have that kind of cash. I absolutely love Taylors, even their new electrics kick major ass.
For cheaper though, believe it or not, Yamaha makes great acoustic guitars. I have had one for 12 years now, that I bought in a pawn shop for $125. It's been all around the world with me! Over the years, it has put all my others to shame as far as tone goes! I don't know why or how exactly, but I haven't been able to buy another that comes close, even with guitars that cost 4 times more. Now, keep in mind that I haven't spent more than $550 on an acoustic though. The only thing I don't like about it is that it has no cutaway. So... because of this, I have bought a few others here and there, and I owned 2 others before I found the yamaha. Now, I also own an ibanez acoustic, which looks and plays very nice, has the cutaway too. It was just a bit under $500 online, but the thing is... it just doesn't have that great of tone next to my yamaha. Even with $18 brass strings and tusq saddles! The yamaha just has this really warm and deep tone, with a smooth high end sparkle. I have used it in the studio and it sounds great. The ibanez looks better, but it doesn't have that real warm, lushness... even though it costs almost 4 times more. It sounds fine by itself, just not in comparison. The tone lacks the body that the yamah has.
One thing I suggest is buying acoustics at a guitar store instead of online, you really never know what you are gonna get until you play it yourself, as even the same model can differ in tone from guitar to guitar, I think more so than most electrics, because of the wood alone. I am not sure if I just lucked out with the yamaha and it's a freak of nature or what, but if you get a chance, try one!

That's pretty awesome. I don't think I've ever played a bad Taylor. I've never found one for that good of a deal either.

Some Cort's are really nice. Apart from that, I've not really played a Taylor properly, only a quick 5 minute fiddle, but that was a really nice smooth guitar.
I've played one Martin, and I'd rank it about the same.
I guess it all comes down to is what you want in looks and stuff.

314ce? I have one of those puppies with the new electronics. It's an excellent instrument. Only steel-string acoustic I'll ever need.

so what about Taylor to Martin...
Taylor. Martin's fine really, I just like Taylors better.
I've got a 210e I bought new for $900 or so and I love it. I'm sure you could pick up a used one at a nice price.

Dude even the 110ce is awesome the only downfall is that it has laminate sides and back. That sucks for ultimate tone but they still sound and play better than any other fender, ibanez, epiphone, etc in that price range. I find that the laminate back and sides stand up to more abuse which is why I play my 110e at outdoor events and keep my 710ce for home use.

For quality, you have to pay for it.. with electrics you can sum in the Hand made aspect.. great electronics.. and come up with a 3+k price.
With an acoustic.. every mi nut detail effects sound and cost, like mine, was hand lacquered and sanded down 10 times, that takes time.. and costs money, but lets the wood breathe, and soak it in. The inlay, mine is nothing special, but the sound hole has custom arrow's around the hole effect... Those were all HAND installed, haha, Acoustics are a new world for me, but i respect the people who make them, and understand why some are 40,000.
And if you found no true difference in a 350$ acoustic, to a 1-2,000 acoustic by martin, i really dont think you should ever venture in that territory my friend

there not truely hand made anymore..hand made to me is a dude sitting at booth with rubber bands and wood glue taking 6months to a year to build...the factory has alot of machined tools for the bodes and necks..the 3K price tag isnt worth it to me, though the aluminum topped acoustic was pretty bitchin to me.

just a note, it's legendary now that Tom Scholz recorded those wonderful acoustic bridges in Boston songs on an inexpensive Yamaha.
ime a well built acoustic > a crappily built one,
but once i find one that's well built / nice neck , then i'm content and the sound is still to me simply "the sound of an acoustic guitar",
and same goes for pianos.
this is just my onion, and i'm definitely not "into" acoustic guitar nor pianos.
but for lay people i can play half a dozen well-built acoustics ranging from $200 to $4000,
and they won't know the difference,
but if i play a les paul then a strat, they hear a world of difference.
or if i play any solidbody guitar through splawn promod, then through a mesa dual rec, then through a fender twin, etc. etc.,
they hear a world of difference each time.
that's the reason i'm not "into" acoustics.

to me, the main difference between a 350$ acoustic to a 2+ grand one, is the feel... the action.. Smooth... and that gorgeous sound that any one can find in ANY acoustic, but for me it really is the feel, and that oh so easy SMOOOOTH action

I could not care any less if anyone, let alone a "lay person," notices the difference in tone of a superior instrument. Nice acoustics, to me, sound and feel noticeably better than cheap ones, and I would spend $3k on an acoustic before I do on an electric.
We all have our opinions, but to say that all acoustic guitars or all pianos sound the same is pretty absurd.

you just contradicted yourself,
either you allow others to have their opinions,
or you do not,
so which is it?
this was my quote:

let me re-emphasize:
to me

+1 Best acoustic ever. I'd love to have a WS-1000. See it here: http://guitars.musiciansfriend.com/product/Rainsong-AWS1000-Advance-Series-Graphite-AcousticElectric-Guitar?sku=519962&CJAID=10381297&CJPID=2221397 Just absolutely gorgeous guitars that do NOT go out of tune due to changes in humidity &/or temperature. Designed by a guy in Hawaii that was unhappy with all the inferior wood acoustics.. :rollinHe suceeded completely. Store I used to work in had a 12 string and it stayed in tune for 3+months without a retune and was played all the time(by me mostly, lol).
Currently I own an '05 Gibson Songwriter AE w/cutaway that sounds & plays simply amazing.. It has the 'LP Standard' style inlays unlike the Songwriter Deluxe which has the inlays like Jimmy Page's double-neck SG has, like this ---> // <--- and the Gibson logo is painted gold instead of being inlaid mother of pearl. Other than those 2 details I could not tell a difference between the 2 models. Both have mahogany body/neck, rosewood board/bridge, Grover tuners, & the Prefix preamp.
I also own a 1995 Peavey SD-9P acoustic(no cutaway) that was handmade in Finland(by the Landola company),, it's a great guitar but very quiet due to its top being made of western red cedar instead of the a-typical spruce. Also has a mahagony back/sides/headstock overlay, ebony bridge/pins, rosewood board w/snowflake inlays & baltic birch neck. As you can tell I've done a bit of research trying to find out its origins due to the fact it was constructed prior to the internet explosion of the late '90s, therefore there is little/no info at all about these earlier models... apparently they're nothing like the current fare Peavey offers(not slamming those either as I've never played them). The reason I mentioned cedar was because it's a typical classic guitar top as opposed to the spruce used more commonly on regular acoustics/archtops.
I'm not a huge fan of Takamine's.. or Epi's,, or Ibanez at all-Ibanez especially sound/feel really cheap regardless of the appearance.
Tacoma, Breedlove, Taylor(5 series & up), and some Martins are fabulous guitars. You really have to play them each to hear/feel which you prefer.
But truly, for the money($1500 on that link above) Rainsong is where it's at. They used to be much closer to $2k when they came out. I'm sure advances in manufacturing has allowed this dip.
YMMV.
Peace
