A couple of years ago i was not to picky over what guitar i got but after spending time here even decent guitars dont really look good enough.

Epiphone, rockbass, washburn and cort are out the window and squire isnt good enough.

Standard series fenders dont interest me now, i prefer slightly better models now.

Basswood and agathis are a no-no

Is it a blessing or a curse? :\

I am a gear snob for what i will call my main big rig that is in the process of being made, but i am also putting a small rig together that will eventually have every part non snobbish, Guitar, Amp, Pedals all non snobish, and what comes out is a very unique noise.

I also have made the decission that simple is best, as few tings the better, the more you have the more that can go wrong.

I could give you an infinite no. of possible ESP custom quotes over $2k that have basswood bodies, but I'll save your time and mine and not.

What about Satch Ibanez'?? I don't know how much they usually go for, but I know the Chromeboys go for like $5-6000, I'm only assuming they're basswood though.

It could just be me but its hard to find a good bass with a basswood body.

basswood doesnt imply the brutal dists are within, but its shred inducing, as per vai aka god, so dont hate.

You could have a $2k custom made with a plywood body if you really wanted.

but the truth of that matter is the real guitar company (ibanez) can and does make various expensive basswood guitars that are top of the line.

are you an elitist guitar snob????

I am far far far from a guitar snob :lol

I have total shit gear until i can get a job but that is giving me to much time to decide what to get and at the moment i am going for less and expensive is more and better.

Edit: Thanks heidi for pointing that out

I'm actually going the other way lately. Cheaper guitars are starting to interest me more these days and IMO alot of the cheaper guitars sound better than the mega money guitars.

I've been looking hard at a few PRS SE's lately. If I do get one and like it, one of my ESP's will be hitting the road.

Same thing here. The expensive (upper) high-end guitars don't interest me as much as they used to because I know I don't need a super fancy guitar. The basics are good enough for me.

I think the fact ive been looking at some cheap Class A amps recently has made me realise that yeah you can have a large rig with all the frills and spills, but when it comes to controling a amp it still comes down to guitar control and disipline on the fret board.

I have came to the realisation that if you cant play on a guitar with single coil pickups on it you cant control a guitar at all as well.

However i still remain to say that Agathis as a wood is tonless, however basswood and agathis are a better choice for cheap guitars, take the Squire Afinity Strat, awsome sounding; Alder, and the more expencive Squire Standard Strat; Agathis and toneless.

However i was glad that i was sold on my Highway 1 Strat, it plays better than the USA Standard strats i played when i was looking at strats, its a better option all together, but the fact the Fender Custom Shop guys went to the Mexico facility and showed their guys how the USA CS did things have made the Classic Player strats some of the best value for money arround that can and do compete with a USA Strat in all departments, and the fact the Knowlege the CS dudes passed on to their Mexician friends is to be passed onto the MIM Standard series and other MIM models (For 08) means that the fact you can get a quality guitar for not very many pounds or dollars now is amazing.

I feel that some of the high end axes now are outplayed by their cheaper counterparts from either the same factory or friegn shores is all good for us the musisician.

Same feeling here. I use to have to have the best of what I liked but after doing that for years I learned that I was really just wasting alot of money. I went through guitars like candy for a while.

I now have the guitars that I consider keepers and am not really interested in spending major money for guitars anymore.

Thats what i am feeling as well, i have my ECs that i love, my Strat thats awsome, if i get 7 string it will probably be a cheap one, and all i need is a project axe and one with P90s and i have every tone covered.

before i say anything i'll agree with everyone else by saying basswood is NOT a 'no-no' wood, its an awesome wood when you find a good piece. if it was shit so many of the worlds best players wouldnt be using it

as for the rest of your post, you are hardly a 'snob' for thinking those shit guitar brands are unattractive as an instrument you would want to play. most people here wouldnt be seen dead playing a package set squire, its totally normal. you are far from a snob for disliking any epiphone

you only become a snob here if you refuse to play anything else that isnt a PRS private stock thru a dumbell amp, for example

I would have to say that lately I've been eying other companies. The Ibanez shadows fall sig is a fucking sick guitar! Best Ibanez I've ever played. Also I played a parker and prs that were amazing aswell so I'll probably be buying one of those in a few months.
