Okay...yes, I'm an ESP NOOOOOOB. So sue me. I'm about to go try out an Eclipse II today. But, I saw this on Ebay and it looks tempting. Now, there seems to be a ton of confusion as to what is custom shop, and what is not. I guess I really don't care, but it's a little frustrating that ESP has so much going on that people can't tell what's what. You'd think they'd be a little more consistent.
That aside, I'm very interested in this guitar. If I like the Eclipse II, I might try to snag this one instead b/c of the full-thickness body. What do y'all think of this guitar? Can anyone comment on the difference in playability between the Eclipse IIs and these older Eclipses?

All ESP guitars have a stamp on the back of the headstock, so does the guitar you posted. You can clearly see it says Custom Shop, so what da yah think it is= ;)

That's not a custom shop, that's an older Standard Series. A bloody good one that.

Wrong-o, as usual-o.
That logo was used for both standards and customs during the 90s and early 00s. I doubt this is a standard, and guitars usually manufactured for the Japanese domestic market (where this guitar is supposedly from) did/do not have any logo at all. I have followed this guitar for several ebay auctions and believe it to be custom shop produced with a mahogany body and maple neck. Looks like a nice specimen, and I would probably currently own it if it had a mahogany neck. Good luck.

Dude...what do you mean, several auctions? That doesn't inspire a lot of confidence if people keep buying and then selling the thing. Are you sure it's the same one?

End time: (2 days 2 hours)

Maybe you should brush up on your "no reserve" ebay auction tactics.

Its has been listed on ebay several times with at least two, maybe three different sellers (I don't remember for sure). I asked both the original Japanese seller and the latest as well if they could confirm if it had a mahogany neck, and neither could. I am not trying to lead you astray, and as stated previously I would own it if I knew it had a mahogany neck. Have fun!

This is superior to the newer Eclipse Standards and Customs, as it has a full body depth (like a Gibson Les Paul Standard), it has the "lawsuit" body shape (like a Gibson Les Paul Standard)
but it still has a shitty layout imo
