Am looking to buy a EC what are the differences between the EC-I and the EC-II. Is the EC-I slightly rarer in some parts of the world?

My understanding was just that EC-Is have solid-coloured tops, while EC-IIs have quilt and flame tops. The EC-2 USA is a different beast altogether, having a different control config and cutaway (for copyright reasons in the USA, I believe), and coming in flame, quilt, and solid-colours. I could be wrong, of course.

Before There was only 1 kind of Eclipse. 4 knobs (2 tones, 2 volumes) and the body was like the LP. So Gibson sue ESP cause it looked like the LP's.
So now in North America they couldnt sell the Eclipse so they made a 2nd version of the Eclipse with 3 knobs (2 volumes and a single tone) and the shape isnt the same (you can see the cutaway is less curved than the original Eclipse).
Correct me if im wrong.

Eclipse-Is have plain tops, sunburst or black. Eclipse-I CTM are the solid colours with multi-ply binding, ebony board etc. No one is rarer than the other if you want it to be as all are available. Just that the regular Eclipse-I is less popular than the CTM version.

So are there also 2 versions of the EC-II i.e. Japanese and American versions? Is the EC-I the same thickness as a Gibson LP?
Also which would you get, the I or the II?
