Hi all i am a satisfied owner of an old horizon custom
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y198/SaintLucifer/DSCF28472.jpg

It's a lot lighter than my strats (this one has an ash body) :rollin and i found that i can play for hours without any fatigue with it so i decided to buy another Horizon standard as a backup.

This time i'd want one more versatile that can space from rock to metal....and i wonder if you can advise me on wich model to choose.

I have never had an active guitar so i am curious about that with emg, but i don't want a guitar metal oriented only.

Here in Italy i found theese possibilities in the catalogues:
all are neckthrough maple neck with ebony fingerboard (and Floyd Rose)

Body can be:
Alder quilted
Mahogany with maple flamed top
Ash quilted

P.U. (Hb Hb cnfigurations)
EMG 81/85 (think they cannot be split though)
Seymour Duncan JB (B) /‘59 (N) p.u. (can be split)

Mine have a litte too treeble, but just a bit, but for sure i don't like guitars with too many basses like gibson LP.

I don't want an heavy guitar (i mean in weight).
wich configuration should i look for?

Thank you :D

It's a japanese model don't think i will ever see it in italy.

Here i just saw Black, red quilted, sunburst flamed, blue quilted... and a fantastic black quilted...

But i'd like to choose configuration rather than color.

This one IS availible for the European market... but, it is with an ash body... I would say, try the FR-II which has the alder body with the quilted maple top... the sound is warmer and more mid-oriented than the ash body ;)
The one with SD pickups does it for me... I don't like EMGs, they sound too "sterile" to me.

I have a SS Horizon NTII and it will cover any style of music really. It's the Maple Neck Thru with Mahogany wings and a quilted maple top, ebony board etc. Came stock with the splitable Duncans (JB and '59) so it it very versatile. I have also heard in person the same model but with the Ash top and it sounds a little brighter compared to the maple top. Just remember if you get a neck thru , a large chunk of your tone will come from the neck materials and to a lesser degree the drop top (if any).
If you want to go for EMG's , they make the 81 in a splitable model now (81TW) and the 89 is also splitable. I have a Schecter with this pick up combo at the moment and it sounds pretty decent. The 89 is tonally very similar if not the same to the 85 but with the coli tap you add a bit more function to it. I also have a SS Snow White MII Neck Thru on order with this pick up combo coming in a few months too.

If the white had an alder body and black binding for headstock & body, it would already be mine :)

If you love the guitar you have now, I would stick with what you like, in terms of wood and pickups. Different wood and pickups with vastly affect your sound. Changes that kind of stuff around to "feel out" certain things, usually leaves people with what I call "disposable guitars". Guitars in their collection they don't play as much because of little things which don't make them a favourite, and after a couple months they end up in the SPAM thread or ebay. Alder and basswood are both lighter woods, mahogany, is not.

So you have that with mahogany wings do you?
is it heavy compared to others with ash or alder or t's a trascurable weight?

Btw i am growing tired with dealers here >.> i can't seem to buy one it seems like nobody wants to sell any horizon model in Italy

Ash and Alder generally are going to wiegh less than mahogany. Unless its "northern ash" or a REALLY heavy piece of Alder (thats a bright guitar... like solid maple bright)

Dealers in Italy cant get you a Horizon?

thats wierd, I figure if I can get one, any one can as my store is in "merica" where all the (acording to shinji) Shitty Monkets live.

No its actually quite light for mahogany. I didnt actually play the ash and alder bodies, just heard them being played. Mine is brighter sounding than say a full mahogany body and neck guitar, but not as bright as say an ash or maple. Hope that helps.
