View Full Version : pickups have buzz
Heya, I've recent brought a ESP Viper 1000 with the standard EMG pickups.. sounds fine on clean, but when distorted -- there's a constant buzz. Its a low buzz sound and particularly when recording, its quite loud. If you mute the guitar strings, its there. When you turn the volume off on the guitar it disappears, this seems like a pickup problem... anyone got any suggestions to sort this? Would be most appreciated :)
Thanks

sounds like bad wiring, check the solder joints in the control cavity

Are you sure it isn't your amp? Or do you record direct?

Check the wiring/soldering and put a quality battery in there while you're at it. Couldn't hurt. with the guitar plugged in and the volume on, start touching the different solder joints. If the buzz goes away when you touch a solder joint, then you've found a bad connection. Desolder the connection with solder wick or a "solder sucker" and apply a good quality solder containing silver. Silver solder is the best stuff you can use on electronics.
