Thats an early 70's Hagstrom Swede in there, I picked it up at a tag sale a few years ago for $100 and the people threw in a free Marshall Mosfet head too. Go to tag sales, they sometimes have Sega games.

I had this ENGL Fireball and that's my brothers fake Marshall cab, but I recently sold the Fireball.

Now I still have the Peavey 5150 combo
http://img297.imageshack.us/img297/5935/bla002fn7.jpg

And the Line 6 Spider II, which is nice for jamming at home and fast/easy recording
http://img297.imageshack.us/img297/3803/0707070702au0.jpg

Probably gonna sell the 5150 combo too and get a 5150/6505 head and a cab or maybe a Powerball

Heres my shit (as you can see im not realli a fan of 'normal' guitar equipment!):

main guitar/early '90's ESP M-II
http://i179.photobucket.com/albums/w301/thirdroute/P1020346.jpg

Fender CustomShop NOS '69 Strat (the Hendrix one)
http://i179.photobucket.com/albums/w301/thirdroute/P1020343-1.jpg

Cloud Nine - dont ask me what it is, as i have no idea, ive had it for years though. i found it in a local guitar shop and fell in love with it! i have since done numerous things to it... like adding the emgs and replacing the fuct components such as the kahler... (original one was dead) when i got it the fretboard was peeling away from the neck, but after an appointment with a great guitar tech it was sorted and now it plays/sounds like an absolute monster! currently tuned to drop b.
its really heavy though, the body appears to be made from lead- renders it a little difficult to play live. the sustain is amazing though
http://i179.photobucket.com/albums/w301/thirdroute/P1020354-1.jpg

My pedal board - speaks for itself realli- i have a vast selection of pedals, but i try to keep the setup as simple as poss for playing live... these are the ones i currently use... its a bit of a state in this pic as a result of a fairly messy gig finale.
http://i179.photobucket.com/albums/w301/thirdroute/P1020357.jpg

My amp- '80s MusicMan 150W... bit of a departure from most of the amps seen on here, but it really is a beast - really beautiful warm glassy tone. picked it up for around 300 quid (ie the same as an avt or some generic low end marshall) ill get myself an engl/boogie when funds permit, but for the time being this great amp does the job (its currently dead tho as a result of it falling over in my car boot... a result of my boy racer-ism :()

I know the guitar is sad, and the amp isnt tube, but it sound amazing for a $300 amp. yes the guitar sucks, replacing with a ltd 301 with 81/85's.

Still have an Eclipse, Strat, and a couple various acoustics for standard tuned non-band stuff.

I've got that same amp at home. It's great for the price... and loud!!! I've never played my SX-200 while jamming with a drummer, so I'm not sure how ballsy it really is. I have a feeling it would do just fine in small gigs, though.

H400 is on it's way out this week, and the 5150 is gone, and I picked up a head case for the 6505+.

Just down to the 2 cabs and 6505+ and XXX, the 2 Vipers and Eclipse for my gigging rig.

Still have an Eclipse, Strat, and a couple various acoustics for standard tuned non-band stuff.

so which do you prefer? 6505+ or XXX. Or do you run both? I'd do both and blend the 2 signals. That'd be killer, but it'd be a pain for channel switching. Then again, who needs to switch channels?

I run both together. I only use 1 channel on each, and I use a Radial BigShot to blend them. Using the Bigshot, I can switch between either amp and both together to help fill out the sound and add dynamics to certain parts of songs.

For pure "crazy" aggressiveness, I like the 6505+, it just screams. the XXX is like a baseball bat to the head though, pretty kewl together. The XXX is still rather new, so I haven't figured it all out. I think when I get it dialed in just right, it'll be just as killer as the 6505+ for what I do. I will say that for a 3 channel amp, I don't it super versatile. The clean is nice, but both high gain channels have loads of gain, and it doesn't clean up too much. But, it suits me perfectly.

I've thought about picking up a XXX for cheap. I actually like the crunch channel more than the Ultra, but then again I've never owned one so thats based on messing with my buds XXX. I heard that swapping one of the preamp tubes with a JJ, cant remember which position, really takes the "fizz" out.

Once it gets to gig levels, IMO the fizz is gone anyway. The Ultra channel has less fizz than the Crunch, too.

ENGL E530 and VHT 2150. I still own the 2150, but its at the shop getting fixed up right now. The impedance selector switch was broken. The 2/90/2 as far as I can tell sounds the same. If there is a difference it is minimal and likely caused by different tubes.

Thank you. The Randall is not too bad for the price range. For me it works great as I am just playing at home in my basement. I am pretty happy with the rig. I don't feel the need to line up a bunch of stomp boxes in front of the amp. (I almost always have with any other amp I have owned) For a solid state the distortion is actually pretty good. As a side note...I am pretty much tone deaf. :o

^^ bet you can shift some serious air with that stack
That stack can most definitely move some air... the sickest thing about that stack right there is not only that it can move some air when needed,, but rather what I paid for it.

I may have mentioned it before,, but my when I used to work as a tech at a guitar store my boss loved to go pawn shop fishing.. so he could make some great deals on trumpets & shit like that, have me fix them up some, clean 'em, restring em, setups etc.. then sell them for profit. He'd do this about once or twice a month usually with a fairly decent success rate.

Anyways, he called me 1 particular morning asking me about 'how much money could you gather in a quickness'..
I asked 'why?'
His reply 'this pawnshop I'm at has a 5150 ― stack for about $450. Are ya interested?'
I said 'HELL YA! I got some loot on me-come get my ass'

So we go down there & there it was,, I tried it out & got the settings as clean as possible to try & hear if any of the speakers were shady & it was all good. Then as I was sealing the deal I noticed the price tag said $400 only! SCORE. $50 off. And then I noticed that there was a 2nd 5150 straight cab sitting off to the side marked for only $200. So I said to the guy 'hey, before we wrap this up can I try that out too?'

Why only have a half stack when you can have the full stack, right?)

'Sure...' was the answer.. so I go through it all again & it sounded just fine-no broken speakers & only minor tolex dmg amounting to what you see at the bottom of the top cabinet. He said to me 'If you sure you're gonna take both cabs, I'll knock off $50.'

That's all I needed to hear-done & done was my reply. He had cash in hand & $550 later I was out the door.:hat I was stoked as fuck that entire day.:p
So there it is,, I finally got a super-schweet deal. So, patience my boys. They are out there. All you need is patience & cash. Usually. :rollin

It was a great amp, was my main for many years (6 and half in fact), great tone out of it, and it CAN do metal tone, despite what some people will have you believe. Its a bit more of a thrashy metal tone, not quite modern, but it still rocked immensely.

The reason I'm speaking about it in the past tense is....since I got the Invader, I've not played a guitar through it since.... :( no need, the Invader just owns it :D

This is currently my main rig: Line 6 Vetta II in to an Avatar contemporary cab. Speakers are a mix of Helltone 60's ('aged' V30's) and Warehouse Veteran 30's. The Veterans really seem to smooth things out, and running it with all six speakers, the thing sounds HUGE.

mate u didn't use much mids on the fireball when u had it judging by a pic u posted with your settings ?i thnk u had the mids rolled way back on the fireball? that amp like most engls needs to be opened up in the mids to get a more dirrect sound as u say .haven't played a 5150 but i can imagine it to is a pretty raw sounding in your face high gain metal amp ?congrads with the 5150 btw!

ESPDude, You have a pretty nice setup there. I'm not a huge fan of big pedalboards, but it looks killer. As you said, underneath the pedalboard looks nice and clean. I'm loving the Eclipse too!
Do you have everything running straight through, or do you have something in the effects loop of the amp as well?
Also, do you find your ZW Overdrive to be very noisy? I have one, and when I turn it on it becomes extremely noisy, I was thinking of putting it in the effects loop as a boost or something, but I think that just may make it worse.
Another thing, how do you like the Boss CH-1? I was thinking of picking one up, but I was also checking out the CE-5, could you compare the two?

Once again, pretty nice rig!

That was probably cuz I cleaned the front plate before I took pictures of it :p So the knobs were changed. I can dial in a pretty sweet tone on the Fireball and I always use enough mids during gigs and usually have the gain around 4 or 5 (4/10, not 4 oīclock :p) I guess it just takes some getting used to the 5150, itīs pretty harsh and direct, whereas the Fireball is a lot smoother

ESPdude

caraluzzo, Yes the ZW OD is a VERY noisy pedal. That is why I have the ISP Decimator noise reduction pedal. I would not suggest putting the ZW in the effects loop because distortion and OD type pedals are always supposed to go in front of the amp. I think the only way you can cure the noise is with some kind of noise reduction pedal. You can get a Boss NS2 on eBay for like 60 bucks. As far as the chorus pedal, I cannot really compare the two but I can say that I am very happy with mine. It can be very mild or VERY over the top, I prefer it more on the mild side though. I think you would like the CH1 though, very solid pedal. As far as using the effects loop I tried it out and didnt really think it was worth the trouble. The delay and chorus sounded pretty much the same to me and I am still undecided but I may actually like the EQ in front of the amp better. Good luck with your decisions.

Quick question: is the eq on the Fireball Active or passive?

The 5150 eq is passive,,, meaning that if you turn the knobs to 1 there is still sound becuz passive eqs only cut sound from 10, which is like a guitars tone knob.

Whereas with active you are boosting the freqs and when all knobs are on 1/0 there should be no sound coming from the amp at all. Not being condescending here, just being accurate in case the question comes up.

Also, any other comparisons would be much appreciated.. especially considering the cleans of the fireball vs the 5150.

Thanks!

Note: the best cleans I can coax from my 5150 are found using the neck pickup with these amp settings Rhythm Pre about 3 or less, crunch off & the bright on. Set the Rhythm Post wherever you like-I tend to want to blast it & get some good old school tones.. :rollin

Also, Most don't know or even consider this tactic with the 5150 becuz they think of it as some pregain monster that is out of control, and it is :) , But if you start with those settings and the post is cranked,, as you add more pregain & eventually end up with both the Pre & Post on 10,, you can totally use your guitar knob as a master volume for the whole rig & it reacts like a good old fashioned amp from the 50s. But its obviously much M U C H louder seeing as it is 120 watts rms vs only about 5-20 with those old small combos.

Peace

Gravy Tank

Definitely use less gain when playing live with the 5150 I say. At practice I usually run my pre-gain at about 6, normal gain input. Live, however, I have my pre-gain on about 4 on the high gain input. Heres basically my live settings. Im usually un-miced at gigs however, so be sure to take that into account.

High Gain input
Pre: 4-4.5
Low: 6.5-7.5
Mid: 3-3.5
High: 5-6
Post: Usually I keep mine at around 4
Resonance: 7.5-8.5
Presence: 8-9

Cab: Avatar 4x12 w/ Vintage 30s

I get a pretty tight sound with these settings, not too boomy and flabby, but not to thin and sterile. It may be a little too...crisp, for lack of a better term, for my tastes but in the mix it sure does cut through in a nice way. Hope this helps my man :)

thanx, Iīll give it a go :)

the setting I had at the gig also sounded pretty good, I think I also had the pre at about 4 or 5 and hi gain input. Main thing is that it was a bit too crisp :p

Too bad thereīs a summerstop with all the venues, so they dont program any bands till like September so I cant get used to it with gigs atm :(

I run my pre @4.5 and get plenty of gain. I'd really recommend some good tubes too. I just tried some TAD 6L6GC-STR's and I would highly recommend them to all 5150 users. It's sooo tight, we're talking like an "uber athletic jailbait" kinda tight. The highs are so sweet too. I still havent heard the Fireball but my 5150II has put the Powerball as the back up head.

simple, would be even more simple but I lost my custom cable that allows my G major to change amp changes, so I had to put my footswitch back on the board. I made a snake outta all the cables but got the custom cable afterwards and never re-did my snake. Now I'm kicking myself for it.

What kind of cabinets are those? They look really cool.

Mine with the 5150II is actually and old Behringer, not the super shitty one but still nothing special. I think they sold one for like $199 and this was the $299. But I took out the crapy speakers and put in Eminence legend 12's. It's one of their V30 copies. I got a great deal on them direct from Eminence for about $40 a piece. I bought the cab off a crack head I knew pretty well for $100. Thank god for desperation :lol.

I really dig it because it actually sounds really fukin good. It's also got all sorts of shit spray painted on it and covered with stickers. It looks mean. Actually most my shit other than guitars has stickers all over it. I like making my gear look like garbage for some reason, always have. Like I said, other guitars. I only cover the backs of my guitars with stickers to stop them from getting belt rash and shit. Now back to the cab, it is MDF board instead of actual wood so it's a little bass heavy but the speakers compliment it well. Plus it's "bilinear" or whatever it's called where the top 2 speakers point up and out in opposite directions. So I really dont have any "dead spots" on stage between my cab and monitors. Still waiting to find "the deal of a life time" on a mesa tradtional/standard or Stellito cab.

The one with the Valveking is actually just an old Peavey "ms4x12" with sheffields. It gets the job done but doesnt sound ideal. My other guitarist owns that. He was using my singers Randall cab, the ones with 2 12's and a single 15. Well, until the band slpit up. That actually sounded really good with both heads. It was also 8 ohms so I'm looking to pick one up as a bottom cab for my rig.

why did you make a bolt on?

I didn't; ESP did. The USA Custom series was a line of production guitars they had available for a brief period in the early 2000s. It wasn't actually a custom order. It took a year to get it like a custom shop, but the specs were already determined. The only option was See-Thru Aqua or See-Thru Black Cherry finish.

it's technically my ryth guitarists but I really like it. I would highly recommend it to anyone and pretty much any style. The A or A/B knob on the back makes it real versitle. Plus it has a nice clean channel. Also the gain channel has a gain and/or volume boost thats footswitchable. The gain boost has to be in for high gain metal stuff but for rock or blues it'd be very usfull.

I would recommend a complete re-tube though from stock. The ruby's arent bad but a good custom selection is way better. You dont need any BBE iin the loop or OD to push the pre amp either, well not IMO anyway.

do the marshall if you can. it's one of the best cabs around. And for tubes, you cant use KT88's. You'd have to run 6L6's. Pre's, I go for a Tunsol 12ax7 for the V1 Slot and some 9th gen chinease tubes the rest of the way. You'd only need 4 total on that amp I believe.

I'd say the V2 is one of the meanest sounding amps I've played. Its up there with the "no other amp sounds like this" catagory. I really do want one I'm just not in a band right now. If I end up joining an old band I played for again, I'd pick one up. They used 7 strings in dropped A and that amp sounded liek teh brut00lz for dropped tunings.

I've got a 5150II. Thats my main amp now. I wouldnt say the V2 is better than the 5150II or that the 5150II is better than the V2. Different beasts. And you are aware the T2 and V2 are almost the same amp. V2 is a little more versitle. Theres nothing the T2 can do that the V2 cant. I've compaired em both. Slightly different voicings on the T2 but you can dial that in with the V2's 6 band eq.

Maybe the V2 but not sure, the slider really doesnt have anything to do with the Mark series amps though. The Mark IV is one of the best sounding amps of all time IMO. Hard to duplicate it. Thats why most people trying to get the Mark IV tone just ends up buying a mark IV.

The V2 and T2 have very distinct tones. Thats why I said they dont sound like any other amp other than each other.

I love it when people post collections like these. I don't feel nearly as bad for having as many as I have. :lol

Very nice collection, Wiz! What's the LP with the creme bobbins (not the Ace)? I love the pattern and finish on that!

Very nice collection. I'm with you Pushead, now I don't feel so bad owning the number of guitars I have. I've always for gas for something.

I started to collect Jems when they were affordable many moons ago, I found the Rootbeer Jem in a pawnshop, a higher force told me to go there one day no joke, and there I found the Rootbeer Jem for cheap money.

The creme bobbin Les Paul is Historic 60 Quilt top very rare and sounds killer has Pafs which scream, traded a Doubleneck Despagni Jem for it years ago, one of my fav Les Pauls. The Jems are never gonna be sold, took me forever to find the green one, its signed and mint shape, one of my babies. Im a Esp man now though. Im trying to reach 100 but need a bigger house, I mean Castle. You can never have to may guitars....
