Just be sure to go step by step and take your time if you're not familiar with how they work. Take the time to do it right the first time and it'll only get easier.

How did you even tune an octave too high??? I would have thought the string would have snapped first...

i'm not sure :rollin but that's my guess as to why the bridge was lifting out. i'm taking it in for a set up though.

you might have to tighten the 2 bolt/screws in the back of the guitar if you change string gauge and tunings and the truss rod aswell. I'd take it to a tech and watch him do it for you and try to learn and ask him questions. Thats what I did and now im teh master of floydz :)

Were the new strings the same gauge?

no, 11 to 53 GHS boomers. there were 11 to 70's on it when i got it. i took it in to have it set up by the shop i bought it from. and due to the strings, the tech ahd to add a spring and torque down the screws that hold the spring retainer.

it's good to have it set up by a pro.
but i also think it's a thing you need to know how to do it yourself.

i'm very picky with setups... so every setup someone else did for me, i've redone myself.
(guess they weren't real pros either)

I used to do it myself when I was young and unemployed. I find it easier now to just get a tech to do it, also getting everything cleaned up, oiled and lubed every time = longer lasting strings, plus a tech does it for a living so it goes to say he can easily do it in 1/2 the time it would take me, and it's done right every time.
