10th Anniversary

Back around August of 2007, I came across an ESP dealer and I was inquiring about the guitars that he had available. He mentioned the various guitars, and at the end, he mentioned that he had a KH20. :eek: Never thought I’d stumble across one from a privately owned shop. I told him that was quite score for his shop. I thought I would dicker on the price just to see what he would sell it for. I figured he would be like the Musician Friends of the world and try to get 10 grand for it. To my surprise, he came down to the point that many others seem to be getting them for. Still, it is some crazy money for a guitar!! I went home and mentioned it to my wife and we went back and forth about it. She knew I would love to get it, but that is a lot of cash!! Since she wasn’t behind it all the way, I decided not to go forward with it. Not that she would have told me no, but we never buy large purchases without both of us feeling 100% about it. Plus, we were in the middle of finishing our home and there is lots of money to be poured into that! So, I emailed the dealer back and told him I’ll have to pass for now.

A few months later I emailed him and asked if he still had “my” KH20. Nope! Someone bought it! Damn it! There goes that dream…. :\ I figured the only way I am going to own a KH20 is buy purchasing it via Ebay now. I always like the idea of being the first owner of most everything I buy. A costly flaw, but it is what it is. So, I moved on.

I’ve always loved the Explorer guitars. My wife bought me a LTD EXP-200 for my wedding gift. So, I decided it was time to move up to a MX-250II. I emailed the dealer and asked him if he could find me one. He said he would try. I checked in periodically, but no luck so far. I knew I could buy them off Ebay, but I was hoping he’d be able to find me a better deal.

Well, to get to the point, June 13 was our 10 year anniversary. Much to my surprise, it was my wife that bought the KH20 out from underneath me!!!! She kept it at my mother’s house for 9 months waiting to give it to me for our 10 year anniversary!!! Wow! I was totally blown away!!!

As promised, here are some pictures. I am not a great photographer. Taking some pictures outside in the sun would have been great, but it was the evening, I had to make due with my camera flash. As far as the flame goes.... meh.... You don't get much of a choice when buying these guitars.;) It is interesting how the flame looks at different angles. It is a better bookmatch when viewed from the bottom of the guitar. Any weird reflections or marks on the guitar are from fuzz and lint from the blankets. The guitar finish is liquid smooth. Also, I threw in a couple extra family pictures. Enjoy. :hat

DCGL is confirmed...Music123/MF is the same serial # from memory...so I was wrong, there are at least two available....my apologies. Nice for anyone who has $8k (I know it says $9999 but I bet you could score one for $8k) :D

hey man, that is awesome. how long have you had the EXP - 200?

Got it for a wedding gift from the wife in '98. I've really tried to take care of it. It needs a little buffing on the fret wire, but otherwise there is only a small ding on the end of the headstock. I'm an Explorer fan so even though it is only a EXP-200, I still cherrish the thing! To me, it is the one type of guitar that makes you feel "bad-ass" the moment you strap it on. :evil

Thanks! Again, it is quite interesting how the flame looks different when viewed from different angles. When looking straight at it, the top seems to not match well with the bottom. But, when looking from the bottom of it, they seem to match up decent.
