View Full Version : A new/used M-II for me!

Hey, new guy here. I just bought my second ESP - a used M-II from a guy off my local Craigslist, (had an M-I back in the day and stupidly sold it to buy a car) I won't actually have it until tomorrow, but I had a couple questions:
I noticed the original trem has been changed to a Schaller Floyd Rose. I know it's a quality trem, but should I get an OFR for it? I'm not sure what the original trem was or why it was replaced.
Is there a good one stop shop for ESP parts? It's missing the back plate screws, and the rest of the screws seem to be all silver, but I want to change them to black.
Lastly, I'm thinking of putting in a zebra Screamin' Demon in the bridge. What's a good neck single or single sized hum for shredding? I like the lead tone of a lot of the '80s shredders like Alex Skolnick and Randy Rhodes - Tight and articulate.
Thanks for the help fellow ESP guys!

Cool guitar, congrats.
Apparently, Schaller FR's are high quality so I woudlnt change it unless it gives you issues.

Congaz! Looks amazing.
I had a schaller - and yes they are nice - but the OFRs that I have had have been better (but that is strictly my personal experience). I'd put the real deal back in but that's just me. If you feel the current set up is getting the job done, then so be it.
Never saw Randy play anything but humbuckers so you might have a little trouble copping his tone w/ a single coil set up (but the humbucker in the bridge should do for playing in that position), but there so much to choose from with the right pickup and amp (and effects) combination you could probably get pretty close. I don't have alot of experience with single coils (as I prefer humbuckers myself), so can't really offer any direction on that but somebody out here probably can.

Thanks for the replies guys! Yeah, I'll see how it sets up and intonates before I think about changing the Schaller.

That's the second suggestion I've gotten for the Hot Rails. I actually have one laying around here somewhere. I've been thinking about trying out the Evo as well. Thanks. :)

First off, Schaller made most OFRs...
Second, cool, it never occured to me to modify a Floyd to fit the routing instead of routing the guitar.

Actually, after playing it for a few days, I've decided it's not for me. The U neck shape just doesn't fit my hand quite the way I want. I REALLY wanted to love this one, but the quest continues.
I'll list it in a separate thread.
