I have the SC-608b. Feels nice, sounds nice, looks nice... It's nice. It hasn't been staying in tune quite as well as I would hope. I'm not sure what the problem is there, far from a major issue though. Keep in mind previous to this guitar I was playing an Ibanez with a blocked Edge trem too, I don't know if you can expect the same tuning stability on guitar like this. Also, I'd prefer it to have fretboard markers.
I'm crossing my fingers ESP releases an MH-1008b or something like that sometime in the future, though I'm sure the chances aren't good at all. Basically the SC-608, but with a regular pickup layout, offset block fretboard inlays, a quilted top and body binding.

Nice, Clips, more pics? What do u have it tuned to and is there enough tension to handle the low string? Sweet Axe!!

Why can't they make a 7 banger with a bridge like that. :(

No clips yet, I'll try to put something together soon. I think the tension is fine on the low string. I have it tuned to standard (F#,B,E,A,D,G,B,E) and I have the same string gauges that it comes stock with (low string is a .68). I tried tuning the low string down a whole step to E just for the hell of it and it was pretty much unplayable, lol. Thicker strings would probably fix that. I think I'm going to stick with standard for a while though.

It simple, I can NOT play on tone pro type bridges. Thats why I have to buy guitars with either a trem or a hard tail bridge like the one on the stef 8's,Ibanez's and fenders.
You see my when I alternate pick or triple pick, my hand rests on the body on the guitar. So I need bridges that are parallel to the body of the guitar. So since the tone pro like bridges are way above the body of the guitar it makes it simply unplayable for me. I had a guitar for 4 months with a tone pros. I played it everyday, thinking I would develop a way to play on it but it didn't happen. I still struggled with it. So thats why I wish they would put hard tails on a 7 bangers.

Thats the first time I've heard of that brazil, that sucks. I have tonepross on all my axes and love em, but I would like to try this hard tail to compare the two.
Anyways, MOAR PICZ!
Also Matt, do u think a 28 in scale would make a noticeable difference when tuning to F# fo tha shuggah?!

I got my 608 a few months back and OMG, Hipshot bridges freakin' RULE!
This bridge allows the flesh of my palm to cover over 50% of the circumferential surface area of the string. Palm muting just got a little easier like that *snaps fingers*
With my locking Tonepros tuneomatic bridge on the LTD 607, the little "peaks" of the string saddles on the bridge would obscure a good portion of the string where its vibration terminated. With the Hipshot, my palm actually floats past this point.
I imagine this is what you'd feel if you were to build a guitar with no bridge at all; the strings would come up straight out of the body.
This is an incredible guitar and I would highly recommend it.

Don't forget DR. Dunno if anyone does 8 string sets though. Wouldn't be that hard to buy one extra string though.

Sometimes I think it's ridiculous myself to be honest, but it doesn't hurt to have more options. I have been itchin' for a new 6 string since I got the SC608 though.

I think I may be alone when I think that I DON'T think it's ridiculous. I love it. Everything about it. It feels "right."
I've only picked up my SC607B once since I got this, and that was because my tech was installing Gotoh Locking tuners on this bad boy;)

8 strings = little too much IMO
nice guitar though.
when you say u rest ur hand on body, do u never palm mute? guess Im having trouble seeing what ur saying. I can def. see how muting would be easier on one of these bridges. I've never played one

Anybody heard anything Stef is doing with these?

Taken from an interview with Steph...
What were the different tunings you used on the new record?
"For tunings, on all of Saturday Night Wrist, with the exception of “Beware,” which I was in G# on the 7-string, but if it was a 6-string guitar, I would be in C#, but on the 7-string, the extra lower string is G#. All of the other songs on the new record were done in that tuning with the G# dropped down to F#. So from low to high, it’s tuned F#, C#, F#, E, B, G#, C#.
I play power chords and bar chords. I don’t have this glossary of stuff to pick from or a lot of single-note stuff. But as a guitar player, I’m really getting ready to delve into that world, but bit by bit. I’m not going to sit in my room for a year and crack out on it. But I definitely intend to expand my abilities. I’ve become more interested in playing lead guitar, but not in the sense where I want to be soloing all the time. I want to play a lot of little melodies. I want to step outside of rocking the riff all the time and be able to cut back and forth between riff and melody with some nice little chords that really change the whole mood and totally shift vibes with chords."
So Steph will probably play in Standard on his 8 string or drop that F# a whole step down?
He goes onto say...
How many different tunings do you use when you play live?
"Well, our first record was all in E, our second record was all in D# with the low string dropped down to C#. I was playing 6-string then. White Pony was the same thing, but we dropped it all down a half-step, so it would be down to C. When we went to the self-titled record, that’s when I went to playing 7-strings all the time. And when Chino started playing his guitar he was always playing in C#. I think that’s one of the tunings he uses with Team Sleep. So he would just play with that tuning. And me playing in G# is the same as him playing in C#. And then for almost everything on Saturday Night, I just dropped down my low string from G# to F#. It sounds cool. But it’s not the same kind of sound I hear when I hear the 8-string and I hear that low F. I joke around and say I want to get a baritone 8-string and have that thing tuned all the way to E! It would be a whole octave lower from actual standard tuning on my 6-string and all the way down two more strings. That’s my love for music right there. There isn’t a rule or a definition of how it’s supposed to be, although I’m probably not going to step off the edge of the cliff and just go wild. But I might. I don’t know. I’m certainly not calculating when I’m going to do it. I’m just enjoying where I’m at right now."

A 6 string guitar, 90% of the time, can take place of an 8 string for the way anybody on this board plays, period. And that is a fact, Jack.
Master a 6 string guitar before you feel the need to add more strings.

Has he heard of a bass?
Also i still dont understand why everyone gets all huffy about these 8 stings. They look cool and are also a little rediculus but still i dont care if you want to play a 30 string or a 2 string.
Also it is true you can play almost everything on a 6 string that is played on 8 strings these days but then your going to have to have one guitar tuned way down and if you want to play something in the standard tuning you'll need to switch guitars. Which the 8 just hop down 2 strings.
Anyway thats just what i think.

Has he heard of a bass?
That's basically what I was thinking when he said tune a baritone 8 all the way down to E. That would be a bass, but with four more strings. But meh, I dunno what I think about the 8 string craze. Not my thing, and I'd never do it, but if it floats your boat, whatever.

That's a pretty good point. The Deftones have tuned lower with every subsiquent release. So, with that said it would make pretty good sense for Steph to stick to 8 string guitars. Then he could use the same guitar for any song.
I'll be one to admit. I have a hard enough time with 6 strings. That's one of the reasons why I'm selling my SC607.
I did get to play a SC608 though. It was pretty interesting, even at standard tuning. I prefer the ESP with a hardtail over the Ibanez with a trem. Still a pretty interesting instrument.

I would really like to play one of these 8 stings. I have a seven and i do like the way the neck feels on it.
It gets really goofy if i play the 7 for a while and then go to a 6. Just makes the neck feel so tiny

Yeah, I find it funny when people get all "master a six first" on us just for playing with extra strings. If you read up on the history of the instrument you'll find that it didn't always have 6 strings. It's always been changing.
And besides, how many people out there can say they've mastered ANY guitar? I've read interviews of some of the finest guitarists out there and they say that they are always learning new things, always growing as musicians.

How much are you paying for those extra 2 strings
Robotsatemygrandma

Granted I'm no master of the 6 string, but I think an 8 string would be really fun and a new challenge.
I've been dicking around a lot lately with my jazz playing and an 8 string would help open new doors for me. It'd help free up some room with chording so I can tap without losing sustain, and provide me the benefit of low tuning for the bROOTzallzz, as well as some bass style slapping, and additional accents.
Sounds like a bag full of win for me!:D

Yeah, I also read an interview of the bass player (Chino?) in a mag. He kind of ridicules Steph's attempt at always going lower - there's no real sense behind it.
I would also make the slight claim that the musical talent of the band rests among band members other than Steph (go ahead, flame me!).
