I was thinking about getting the Mark IV 1x12 amp and had a couple questions about it. I have heard great things about the Mark IV but since I am not currently in a band I dont really need a half stack which is why I was thinking of getting the Mark IV 1x12 instead. I jam with friends only a couple times a month (drums, bass). I was wondering if this would be loud enough since it is a 1x12? I've seen this amp paired with another 1x12 cab which I'm sure would be plenty loud enough. I was also wondering if I did happen to actually start playing in a band could this power a half stack instead of just another 1x12?

yes its plenty loud for a jam situation.

yes it can power a 2x or 4x12.

What type of music do you play?

If it's mainly rock/metal, I would get the Mark IV head and a 1x12 or 2x12 extension cab over the combo. Much more versatile and the partially open back on the combo just doesn't sound as good as a head and closed back cab for rock/metal IMO.

combos kill our body.
Very terrible to carry around.
Better head + any cab you want, even 1X12
Mark IV is the best amp ever.
Enjoy it !

but the extension cab will be closed. and he can bypass the open back speaker. also if he decides to keep the cab he can easily mount the innards to a head box and sell off the empty combo cab with the speaker to recoup some cash.

well I don't like combos , visually and physicly.Carrying them around is a nightmare.

I love a head over a cab,even a 1X12 cab.

I play all types of music. Everything from rock, metal, blues, punk, funk. I thought about getting the head and cab but money is a factor. If I had the cash I would probably go with the head and a 2x12. But I can pick up a used combo for cheaper than if I were to buy a head and cab. And since Boogie said the combo would be plenty loud enough for a jam situation I think I am going to pull the trigger on the combo.

wheels don't help to put it on a car , upstairs, dowstairs etc
combos love scratching cars painting ! :lol
Dowstairs with a combo you have 90% chances you will roll over the floor :rollin

In time, you will regret getting the combo for the reasons already listed. I would recommend saving a bit more and getting the head and cab, much more versatile IMO.

get head and cab not combo,

i didn't like the "small box" sound from the combo which is the only markiv i've played,
i can tell from what i heard that the amp itself is awesome;
i've had this same small box sound issue from many amps with too small of a housing for a 1x12 speaker, the peavey classic30 is an example which is why i chose the peavey delta210 which has a bigger housing, but is the same amp as the classic30 (with one added feature of tremolo ),
and another example was a marshall jubilee 1x12 i owned, as soon as i plugged that amp to a 2x12 or 4x12 i had so much better sound.

smallboxes suck imo, jmo.

I'm pretty sure lugging around a 4x12 is worse than a 1x12 combo. Hell my 1x12 combo weighs less than my Mesa 2x12.

no my friend,you buy a head and a 1X12 cab,much better than a combo.
It's easier carrying a head separated from the speaker.
Is it so hard to understand ?!
You take your head and put it in your car then you take your 1X12 cab and put it there too.
Combos love cars paintings and stairs are a nightmare !!!

It's twice the work carrying both a head, then a cab then carrying just 1 combo.

hmmmmm my old 65watt 1x12 combo was lighter than any of the 3 heads I have had (peavey supreme 160watt, peavey transtube 100watt, and 5150II 120watt). I can't see how the head/cab combo would be easier to lug around either. Physics is physics man. If it is lighter..........IT'S LIGHTER. Also, I ALWAYS hit the door jams of my car when I put my amp head in the car. Never once did I do that with my combo amp. If the combo will hold up to some jam sessions and is easier for you to transport....I say get the combo.

thats right, you dont have brains.

get a mark IV short head cos you can rack mount later
and then get a 2x12
for ocassional jams, you will be kicking your self later
dont get a combo
what if you want to upgrade later to a 4x12?
a case is way cheaper for a head
a 1x12 would be loud enough but trust me it doesn't push enough air for a good band mix

No brainless,I said when you are dowstairs with a combo, you can't see its steps so YOU and your COMBO will be rolling down the stair!!!
Again head and cab are so many ways better because you can choose what cabs you will use to each venue.
Everybody have friends so when you will go to a gig, you'll carry your head and a friend (drummers are good for that ! ) will carry your cab.
This way you not only will be protecting your back as your cars painting too.
Not,ok but that's is my advice.;)

if you are a fucking retard you will scratch your cars paint.

also having a head an cab you have TWO TIMES the danger of fucking your shit up.
