View Full Version : EMG question
I have two guitars, both are mahogny bodies and neck, and both are set neck..one of them have an 81 in the bridge and an ebony fretboad (it's an eclipse), the other one have an 85 and rosewood (a sg). The Sg is a cheapo guitar, but I think it cuts better trough the mix than the eclipse. Is this common with the 85 vs the 81 or is it the guitars that does this? I think it's wierd because I thought the 81 would cut better trough the mix than the 85..please share opinions :)

The pickup isn't the only thing that makes a guitar's sound, silly! Different guitars sound different, easy as that.

the 85's have tons more mids than the 81's... mids help cut through better, easy as that :)

the 2 pickups also have different magnets. The 85 has an Alnico and the 81 has ceramic.
