i pulled the trigger on an eclipse II, sweet guitar. set up was pretty good but i still plan on taking it in for a pro set up. The matte finish is unbeleiveable, i like alot better than the glossed up laquer finishes most guitars have. the guitar is super light, i'd say stratocater light, and is super comfortable to play. the guitar is basiclly a work of art.

both ESP's, the 400Vf is such a good guitar incase u were wondering. the 400 sounds warmer to me even though they both have the same pick ups.

yeah, i got it from musiciansfriend. i was nervous about buying from them because of other peoples posts re: the QC issues w/ eclipses that were purchased through musicians friend. i hate buying instruments w/ out playing them first but i already owned the 400vf and figured what the hell. i'm so glad i bought it. fit/finish is perfect!!

I got the same one at an amazing price and it just needed a setup. This was the first guitar I got without playing it first and now I have no problem buying another ESP without seeing or playing it first the Quality control for ESP is awsome I am very impressed. I had been playing Gibson guitars since 1979 and there quality control in recent years has been "Well let's just say it hasn't been" So needless to say ESP now has a customer for life. By the way nice ax. What year was it made? The one I got was made in 2006.

Wow, very sexy guitar.
I thought the honeybursts had white pickup rings, though:

first, thank u all for your kind comments.
i also thought the guitar was supose to come w/ cream pick up rings. i like the black alot, really growing on me. besides, anybody w/ a gibson has cream pick rings.
i love the finish. i play mostly blues and rock so the color/finish suits me well. i like that classic look.
Not sure what year it is, how can i find out?

The creme rings were new for 2007. Back in 05 and 06 they were black...

Correct me if I am wrong but I thought the newer model guitars first two numbers in the serial number are the year the guitar was built mine says 06 but my Eclipse came with cream color pickup rings, so either mine is an 07 or cream colored rings came standard in 2006.

Does yours have Spezels or Gotoh Tuners. Spezels = 05, 06. Gotoh = 07

the first 2 digits in my serial # are 06 so i guess i have a 2006.
starting to think the neck is rotated. i plan on taking it in for a pro set up tonight and letting the luthiers look at it. i hope this isn't an issue. any one else experience this before?????

What makes you think that there is something wrong with the neck?

it looks rotated slightly. if i look down the neck the fret board seems higher on the cutaway side where it meets the body of the guitar compared to the other side.

Yeah, that not good!
Take it in for a set up for sure.

just got back from the luthier. i was right. the neck is rotated and it is a factory error. he said it isn't too bad though. he said "the only perfect neck exists on paper." he made a truss rod adjustment and raised the bridge on the treble side. he said it was better than when i brought it in and that the guitar was definately playable but i would have to watch for any changes in the neck due to the ammount of hummidity in the air. he said he would not send it back but watch it. this makes me nervous. iv'e been playing it for about 30 min and i can hear it going out of tune. arghhhhhh !!!! not sure what i'm going to do. what the fuck ESP !

I'd send it back if I were you. Have them send you another one.

You got it at Musicians Friend you have 45 day's just call them up and tell them the neck is twisted and you want to exchange for a new one, make sure they pay for the return shipping because they sent a defective guitar to you. I have exchanged several pieces of equipment in the past no questions asked if it was defective they always' paid return shipping, but if I just did not like it I had to pay.

i'm sending it back for another one. musiciansfriend paid for the return shipping so it's not costing me any $$$, just sucks i have to go through all this. If the next one is bad ...... I'm buying a gibson.

I wouldn't blame ESP for too much. These are 2006 models that were probably made in late 2005. They have been sitting around for 2 or 3 years! What would you expect?
jboy500
04-17-2008, 09:43 AM
i'm willing to bet it's more a factory defect than a "the guitar has been sitting around for 2 years" issue. shit happens, i understand this, that's why i'm getting another one.
