so here's the situation. We are about to do a airbrush job on my guitar. but i still have one question left in my mind... how can we paint the EMG pickups? i mean... i know we can directly paint on the pickups... but the paint still need some clear over it... so... is the clear gonna interfere with magnetic field? will my guitar sound the same?
how i have to proceed?
(p.s.: my friend has been doing airbrush for only 2 years and he is very awsome in it. i wouldn't give a 1000$ to a newbie but he is very incredible. i've saw him doing drawings and I saw some of his works and it's cool. if u want to see : http://www.myspace.com/nicairbrush)

I don't think the clear would effect it much, if at all.

the thing is... I dont want it to make it affect at none!
the fact is that EMG plastic caps may be (maybe) made so that the frequency of the strings go through it and i mean that even the plastic caps vibrate because of the strings (maybe act like an acoustic or classical guitar) and with the clear coat the plastic cover wouldn't be able to vibrate as much so the sound would be less clear or become completely shitty.
(out of context)
same fact as an archtop guitar. NEVER buy an archtop guitar if the pickups are fixed on the body. the best archtop guitar have their pickups floating OVER the body (fixed by the neck and the bridge but without touching the guitar itself) so that the whole body can vibrate correctly and u get all the sound coming from the guitar.
hmm...didn't really get that archtop thing, sounds interesting tho..does a les paul have the correct mounted pickups or not?:o

yeah. the floating pickups is only good when u have a guitar with an empty body(like an acoustic guitar. so archtop in this case). because the top of the guitar is crafted so that it can resonate (would have to give a little course about acoustics) so if u have pickup on a archtop body, the top of the body cannot resonate because there's pickups on them which disallow the body to resonate (if u want a scheme i can make one).
but thats not the point of my question...

I don't know about anyone else's experience, but my KH-2 that the previous owner had painted with the ouija design has much less low end than my other "plain" one. Maybe it was just how the painter painted it.

With paint and clear coat. The loss of tone isn't that significant really.

i know it's not significant... but that tiny bit of significance is what made emg so popular.
