i love DR's
EB are just those cheap well made strings that get the job done imo
if you have the extra dollar a two for strings get the better shit, and DR is one of the best. along with GHS and elixir

I use DRs they last longer and feel better to me. I have used EB, GHS, and elixers and once I tried DRs there was no going back. DRs all the way.

I have used a lot of different strings in the past and to me DRs are the best. DRs are the only strings I use.

okie cuz i was thinking of gettin their tite fit jazz set-with 12-54. would those work for drop c tuning on a floyd?cuz i know adam d from kse uses this set and they alwayz use drop c and his guitar has a floyd.

DR by a longshot in my experience. EB's die really quickly. DRs are top notch in terms of quality, feel, and tone.

I think it would work, but I am not to familiar with floyds. I use DR 10-46 on all my guitars. I dont have any floyds though. I use standard, drop D, E flat, D standard, drop C. DR 10-46 works great for all my guitars in all those different tunings.

tite-fit 11-50 will be better for Drop C
Alexi Laiho has used them forever and CoB plays Standard D/Drop C

i had a 12-54 set on a floyd rose guitar at one point but it was for drop B. it'll work, you'll just have to setup the floyd specifically for that gauge. for C i'd recommend 11-52 or something like that.

yea, even for me 11's are pushing it, i like 10-48 typically in standard D, but if your used to the higher gages, 11-50 or 11-52 will do amazingly
DR is the best. Last forever.
but there is a downside with DR: Now that I have tuned down to drop B I prefer 11-54, but dr does not offer that, erniball does.

o ok then. how does this sound-10-52 for standard with a floyd, 11-50 for drop c with a floyd, and 12-54 for a hardtail guitar for extreme down tuning:)
does that make sense?
no, not at all I think. Why use lighter gauge on the drop C than on the standard?
xdaynex
03-14-2008, 11:18 AM
does 10-46 sound okay then for the standard?

drop c with a 50 is gonna bve mega loose
i liek my strings loose and i use a 52 and its not tight at all

I used EB for a long time...until I discovered DR.
Now, whenever I have to use EB or D'Addario or anything else (for emergencies or whatever) I'm never happy with 'em.

depends on the guitar
with my strat the 11-54's is too loose in drop c but on my F-50, 9-46 are actually tight (i know weird). each guitar is different, you have to play around and see what works best.

kk ive made a decision and itz down to 2 sets for the drop c/d tuning on a floyd. either 11-50 or 10-52. i know alexi uses 11-50 but would 10-52 work better for drop c/d tuning?

i use DR HiBeam 10-46

I dont find Elixirs to be good strings. Sure they last long but there is SOMETHING (apart from the price) wrong about them. I dig blue steels 11-something for C and DR 10-46 for D.

I don't wanna be a basher but discussing on a forum like this what strings you want is kinda..stupid, since its all down to your personal preference, try different gauges every time you change if you didnt like the current one, to something you think feels better..
I use 11-53's for drop c tuning and 12-54 for drop b..or was it 55..who cares, you get my drift. :p

I finally found a set of DR strings to try. The Hi-Voltage ones with Dime on the front. I think I learned why they were in a bargain bin lookin thing though. They fuckers came out of the package dirty as fuck. Oh well though, I'm not really noticing it now that they're strung up.
I had to drop from 12-50something to 11-something though, was planning on looking for a set of 13's, ah well.

I use Dr 'jeff healey' guage for drop tunings (10-56). the top is still light and fast, but the bottom is perfect for drop c.

i prefer DR's. like that on guy said. ernie ball's are a cheap string that gets the job done....well. i like the way DR's and Ernie Ball's sound. but i think DR's keep there nice crisp sound longer than Ernie balls. elixers are crap, the have that coating that make them sound dull. and i prefer that nice hard crisp feel that dr's and ernie ball's have.

for jazz....they have a very very piano like sound...in my opinion. for hendrix or blues dean merkleys are the shit! but for some hard rock, cant beat DR's

WTF, am I the only one who actually prefers Ernie Balls? DR Strings are good but for me EBs have worked ten times better. The sound is superior compared to DR and since I started using EBs I've never broked a single string while playing. Luck maybe, but they still haven't failed me.

I prefer Blue Steels and DR's over EB's. Luckily for EB their gauge selection is great, and the not Even Slinky's are just perfect for what I do.

if you were doing drop c, you're eventually probably going to explore other alternate tunings, I know I did, so I would go with a DR shotgun set.
it started with C and now I'm going back and forth between A and C#. given i play bass, but the principal is the same

Ernie Ball = cheap poor man's strings. I use EB, because i have to many guitars to string,a new set will cost be almost $100. However to me DR Tite-Fit and GHS boomer's = pure secks.
EB's just sound really dull to me even when they are brand new. DR's are extremely bright and clear with tones of metallic tone, shimmer out the ying yang. Boomer's are the same way, but they have a strong low end response, that really adds "ounch" with distortion.

i love EBs imo EBs and DRs have the same sound when they are new a fresh. DRs just keep their sound longer, thats the only reason i like them so much. EBs last a month maybe. DRs are a good 2 months, for that fresh string sound............................................. .

I've been using Ernie Ball regular slinkys (10-46) for standard tuning for 16 years, & have no complaints.

I use elixir heavy 12-52
I'm currently using Dime Bag Dr's and they pretty good, but IMO the Blue steel strings last longer and stay brighter. Also they have a wider selection of sizes.

From the comments I have read, it seems like I should try DR over ER as I origionally had planned so.
