So im saving my money for a new head and dont know what to buy.I want pure quality product.Im looking for the powerball right now but if the SE really worth the huge price tag i may go for it.I would like an amp able to do it all.I play Dream theater, stratovarius, symphony x,Vai,Satriani but i also play arch enemy, inflames, cob, into eternity, nevermore, opeth. I like vintage rock lead as well as modern ripin lead.I want THE amp that will end my tone quest.Any sugestion or personnal review of those amps are welcome.

And someone explain me how MIDI works. Can you save eq and every setting?

"how MIDI works. Can you save eq and every setting?"

usually on amps you can't, usually on amps it only lets you substitute a midi controller for more regular footswitches,
so changing channels on amp, changing from master vol A to B if amp has that.
This is about how the framus dragon and cobra midi work.

on the engl SE i totally don't know though.

a programmable preamp like a jmp-1 or triaxis - i think lets you save eq settings,
so *maybe* the engl se does? i have no idea, you can probably find out getting the manual online at engl's site.

I take it that the Powerball doesn't does it?

and yes, on the JMP-1, Triaxis, ADA MP-1 and so on let you save EQ settings

none of the above amps save presets, engl has 1 preamp that does that, not sure of the name.

the roadking and pb will need an external switcher to use midi

SE and invader are already midi-able and will save ch, vola/b, etc....

Of the above, i would venture to say the SE will most likely be the all around best but i've yet to play one and only basing on the few reviews from people who's opinion i trust.

im stuck in the exact same situation. i cant decide whether i want the se, or the powerball. im might still want a mesa rectifier but im leaning more towards the engl stuff. just from what i have heard. but is the se really worth the extra cash? because i think i just want the powerball for the price it looks like it could do everything i need it to do an more. but i never know when i need to do more so. sorry i really dont understand my own questions.

I've owned a Mesa (Single) Rectifier, ENGL Powerball (v2) and ENGL SE (EL34). The SE wins hands down. :D

I'll post clips as to - IMO - why soon.

For the various tones that you are looking for I would personally go for the ENGL SE. That thing is just a beast...very versatile. The Road King would do you good as well but it really depends on which you like better.

well what are the major differences between th se and powerball? what is the main thing that makes the se better? im guessing there are alot of things that make it better. but what sold you on the se over the powerball? the way everyone is comparing the se and powerball it sounds like the powerball is crap in a box with knobs to control the crap sound.

tonal, features, etc.

read the 2 manuals or bits of each and you'll get a better understanding (i did)

The pb by no means "sounds like the powerball is crap in a box with knobs to control the crap sound." But the se im sure sounds better, i think dannyM put it best by saying something to the effect of "the se sounds like the guitars have already been produced and mastered"

I want an se but the money issue ya know :\ Selling my powerball though will add to the funds as much as i dont want to see the powerball go, its time.
