What's the difference between these two? I know the tubescreamer and the Maxon have the same JRC4558 IC chip, but are they both basically the same? If so, I'll go with the Maxon, since its like almost 35 bucks cheaper.

Originally, Ibanez subcontracted Maxon to make many of their name branded items... such as the flying fingers pups and the 808.
Maxon no longer makes thing for Ibanez. however they still are much better.
Ibanez does not make anything-they are a name that is owned by the hoshino-gakki company of japan, just as Tama is. Pretty much everything they do is subcontracted out. Their MIJ stuff is nice. The others.. meh.

I think its gonna be a MXR Custom order soon for me as well, just need to get that and try it out, altho a TS-808 has just came down to £115 near me, but for that you can get a Keeley Modded TS9 for only £14, a Keeley Modded SD-1 is arround £109 i think.
Tyhe GT-OD is £69 for the cheapest quote i can find in the UK. However i also want to get a hold of the Boss OD-3 as well as they are seemingly one of the best under-rated ODs arround.
I live by the theory, you can never have too many Overdrives as you never know what you want to "open" a amp up by or "tighten" an amp up by as well.

Maybe you should check out Xotic effects. If you are looking for that TS sound the AC for be what you would lean towards. Personally I would look at the AC+ though. It's like three pedals in one. You can use one side of the pedal as a clean boost and the other side as a more TS style. You can also load both sides into each other and there is a button to choice which one you want to run into the other. Also, the clarity of the Xotic overdrives is just amazing if you ask me and when you roll down the volume on your guitar you don't lose the highs like you do with other OD pedals.
There is a guy around these parts that has the AC+. I can't remember his username but I remember him talking about using it with a Laney Lionheart.

Who's much better? Ibanez?
I'm sorry I wasn't clear enough in my original post.. as I stated before I'll state again: IBANEZ DOES NOT ACTUALLY MAKE ANYTHING. It is all subcontracted out to be made by OTHER COMPANIES.
Therefore, I was implying that MAXON gear is much better than Ibanez, seeing as that Ibanez doesn't make anything... Maxon made stuff for Ibanez. But no longer do so. Therefore.. see where I'm going with this?
Maxon > Ibanez for any pedals.

I recently bought a TS9. I like it, but I don't love it. I really want an 808.
I've got a friend who swears by the Digitech Bad Monkey. He runs his in front of a Randall and his tone is great. I just can't (currently) bring myself to buy anything by Digitech.

I know Maxon used to make stuff for Ibanez, but why would Maxon be a better pedal since its pretty much the same thing? That's my point.

The Maxon ones have little bells and whistles on it as well sich as better quality components, and they have True Bypass and not the JFET stomp switch, whitch automatically makes the pedal a non tone sucker.

Plus, as I understand it (from a post from Ans I believe), the Maxon OD 808 is actually a different circuit from the TS9. Supposedly it is smoother and less noisy.

The JFET switching system is still a very good switching system, I'll probably just get the non true bypass version of the Keeley TS9 Mod Plus pedal...

It is, but I meant to compare the Maxon od 808 vs. the Ibanez TS-808.

anyone know then who makes the ts-808 for ibanez these days?
fwiw i had a modern ts9 reissue and didn't like it much at all, pretty damn lame imo, i've owned many way better solidstate od's.
i'm interested in trying the ibanez 808 and the maxon 808 someday, but in no hurry atm.

i'm not fond of digitech pedals either, have tried out the xdd delay and the x-series reverb, both poop, and had a lot of hissy noise!
i've found though that thru a good sounding amps, certain otherwise shitty pedals can sound good; so i chalk it up to the amp doing the work, jmo.
one example - an 80s or 90s bright pink DOD "thrashmaster" or someting it was called that i borrowed from a friend. played thru some of my good amps, that thing sounded very much like Smashing Pumpkins heavy saturated tones.
not that a good amp will make all crappy pedals sound good tho, some crappy pedals will ruin the tone a good amp could be doing.

Well.. as I stated Maxon used to make the renowned TS-808 for Ibanez. If you are interested in comparing an oldschool ts-808 that was made by maxon(which runs about $400+ these days to my knowledge) vs a new pedal that is simply a maxon 808(about $150 new http://www.godlyke.com/shopping/pgm-more_information.php?id=38&thiscat=11&frompage=Online_Store&page_num=1&=SID ), I'd be hard pressed to believe that there were very many sonic differences. Although I'm sure that there will be some for sure just because there have been advances like true bypass to consider-Unsure if the original 808s had true bypass.
That's all that I was saying. But I too would be interested to find out who Ibanez has commissioned to make their pedals for them nowadays. I'm also curious about their tube amp the THERMION,, or w/e its called.
