Enlighten Me (Effects Loop Question)

Whats the difference that your effects pedals are in the Effects Loop on the back of your amp / head, opposed to running Guitar > Pedal(s) > Amp.

Thing is, I just bought a Boss EQ pedal, and it sounds like junk when I run it in front of the amp, since it doesnt have an Effects Loop on the back of my head.

Ok...

If you run the EQ in front of the amp, then you're only EQing the signal going into the amp.

If you run the EQ in an effects loop, then you're EQing the amp's signal, with the amp's gain and tone shaping going to the loop.

Make sense?

Delays and EQs mostly. Anything else I'd say is all personal preference.

modding an FX loop is a VERY difficult thing to accomplish, i know they sold kits for modding the valve junior to have an FX loop and its not that hard to do without a kit, but i dont know if anyone has really looked into doing it for the TT, and i haven't seen a schematic for the TT so i don't really know how to do it either

EDIT: for the record, i ran my GE7 out front of my VJ for many months until it mysteriously broke and never had any issues and it yielded me an good tone for how the amp was sounding at the time

can someone tell me how to loop a , lets say , eq in the effectsloop of a 5150 ( any amp )

is it just as simple as effects out---->eq------->effects in something like that ? 2 cables and a pedal?
