hey all,

I'm keen to see what different cabs 5150mk2 owners have stuck with their heads. I've had my mk2 for about 4yrs now, modded it and all, though it needs re-tubing soon. I run it with an mxr 10 band eq and I hope to get a bbe sonic soon. I still have it matched with the std. 5150 slant cab which is fine but over the years i've heard that marshall, mesas etc. really do it alot of good. I play metal in the vain of machine head, log, slayer etc. So what can you tell me about other cabs with the mk2?

Don't get the bbe? I haven't heard it with the 5150 but i've heard nothing but good. What's your impression?
What speakers do the vintage engls have?

I ran my 5150II with the older Peavey Sheffield cabinet but loaded them with celestion 75's a,d it sounded killer. Sounded Identical to my buddy's Marshall cabs loaded with the same speakers. I didn't use any sort of extra eq or effects with mine, though, as I thought it sounded great by itself.

may I also suggest Randall cabs? :)

may I also suggest Randall cabs? :) I totally agree. Randall cabs are absolutley great, no matter what price range you get them in. Sound is awesome.

Most Randalls come with vintage 30's yeah? This may seem dumb but how much does the wood effect the tone? Surely there's a variance in quality of woods and construction between mesas & randalls etc.

The Randall cabs that are comparably priced to mesa are 11 ply void free birch. That's pretty top notch.
